Disabling connection

I have always been able to open network connections, right click Local Area Connection, click disable. No problems until today. Now when I try to disable it, I get the following error: "It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support Plug-and-Play, or it may have been intiated by another user or the system account."

I have rebooted to safe mode with network connections as administrator as well the other users, tried to disable from here, and I get the same error message.

All of my virus scans, adware, etc. find nothing.

I have to manually unplug cable.

Short of blowing up computer, any help would be appreciated.

This problem started with an update at the end of august beginning of september.  I tried once to reset my computer to the settings before that update and it worked but the updates keep coming and keeps giving me problems and now I can not restore settings back to that august date.
