DSSAGENT Application Program

I recently upgraded my McAfee VirusScan V. 7 Professional to V. 8.0 on my system running Windows XP Home Edition. When I scan my C-drive with this new version, it finds a suspicious program: "C:\WINDOWS\BBSTORE\DSSAGENT". It does not consider this a virus in itself, but considers it a suspect program. This same error occurs when I run this same level of McAfee on my other machine running Windows 98 first edition. I am afraid to remove this dssagent application file without knowing what it is for and how it got there on both machines. Does anyone else have this file on there machine or know anything about it?

ChrisRLG:  Thanks for your response. I was afraid something might try to start the program and it would hang the machine if these folders were missing. I thought I saw a procedure on how to completely remove the program a while ago, but could not find it again.

The updates for spybot are sometimes a problem, particularly just after an update has been issued. The servers often can't cope with the demand. I normally try one of the mirror servers, the ausi one normally works best for me. After ticking the check for updates, before ticking the download, try changing the server which it is looking at.

ChrisRLG: Thanks for the reply. I don't remember seeing any option on what server was being accessed for a download. Did I miss something? I tried to find it on my machine that is up to date, but it does not give me the option to download because there are none available. Charles Ranheim

Try starting the program from the advanced menu item instead of the icon or easy option. It has more settings available.

ChrisRLG: I reinstalled the program and started it in anvanced mode as you suggested. The default download was "Unido". I looked for "ausi", but it was not an option. Before starting the download, I selected "Rootboxen.net (USA). The downloads were successful. I didn't even try the default server this time. Who knows, it might have worked tonight. However, I want to thank you again for your help with the download problem. By the way, I tried running SPYbot without the updates and it found 33 problems. I did not deleted any of them. After downloading the updates and running it again, it only found 4. I was a little surprised at this. I  thought it would have found more after the update. Charles Ranheim
