Error message?

I have windows XP and I'm at my witsend. I even baffled the Dell service people.
I have an error message that has been coming up. It's a box that is called 'here' and then it says 'outsideerror = 0 success=0' Everytime I boot up it has that message and I can connect to DSL however, I can not get anywhere on the internet. I click on Netscape AND IE and they both come back saying website can not be found. So I type other addy's in the address bar and still I get the same message saying 'address can not be found'. So I have had to do a system restore back to a few days ago just to be able to get on the net. As soon as time goes by the message pops up that I have had an update and I need to reboot. Once I do that...I get the 'here' message and I will have to do a system restore all over again. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I have NOT downloaded any programs lately that would cause this. I have Mcafee and ran the virus scan and it found nothing. I also have search and ad destroyer but that doesn't seem to be doing anything because I have had that for awhile.
Any ideas?

Jennak72,

Does this message only appear when connected to the internet?  The best spyware removal is Ad-aware and Spybot.  Parasite removal is CWShredder.  Try these first.

If these don't solve your problem the download HiJackThis, run, scan, save to notepad, and post here.  Do not try to fix anything.

I have the spybot and I thought that was the reason that this was happening but I have had it for over a few weeks so I doubt that it could be that.
I will do what you say and post it.
Thank you for replying so quickly.
The message appears as soon as I reboot the computer. I do not have any problems using my computer off line. It is only when I am connected to the internet.

I clicked on Spybot to run it but decided to click on updates first. I got a window that popped up saying
Systemfehler.code:1400
invalid window handle

What does that mean? And then it wouldn't update?

On the updates page there is a drop down just to the left of the "Show Log" Button.  Click on it and select FxClips to see if you can get the update from there.

Download and run hijackthis from here

Make sure that you actually extract HijackThis to its own folder. DO NOT run it from within a zip manager (Winzip), as no backups will be saved.

Post the log after you have run it.  It may or may not be spyware related.  Someone will review your log and let you know.

You need to be running hijackthis from its own folder not a temorary folder.  If you have to download it again do so and unzip it to a new folder such as c:\hjt

Then have hijackthis fix all of the following

Finally, go to add/remove programs and uninstall P2P networking and Kazaa or any other filesharing program you are using.  Most of this spyware came from using it.

I glad it is running better.  You still have a couple of problems, one of which was not in your last post.  Make sure you protect yourself with the tools at the bottom of this post to keep this mess off your system.

Have hijackthis fix the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PGStub.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\Jenna\dp-b23011805.exe

Did you uninstall P2P Networking?  It does not appear to be running but is still in your startup menu.

Now that you have done this, you need to protect your self.  The best way I know of is to install SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-Spyad and keep them updated.  You can find links to them here.  You also need to install ad-aware, update it, and run it a couple of times a month.

Great I will do those things. I did delete P2P but you are right...I still have it there? I will go back and take it out.

I have spybot. Do you suggest that as well? It seemed to be working good til all this mess came about. Not even SURE where it came from because I deleted Kazaa last month because of what Spybot found from it. I downloaded Ares for music now and that seems to be running good. I sure hope it isn't putting adware on my computer!

Thank you so much. I was baffling the poor Dell guy with all of this. he had me even turn over my lap top and take the battery out and put it back in! Ofcourse that did NO good. But he tried a lot of other things so I give him credit!
Anyhow, Thank you. It runs so much smoother now!

Yes, I would use spybot as well.  Just keep it updated before you run it.  Ares appears to be spyware free from what I can determine.
