Fatal Error MOM.EXE

Each time I boot up, I receive a message that I have MOM.EXE and then another stating there is a CLR error 80004005.

I have run my Trend Micro antivirus and Registry Mechanic but cannot get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Thanks much.

Most of the google search hits (did a google search for mom.exe) says that it's spyware.

Antivirus programs will not detect most spyware.  You need a spyware program to remove them.

If you don't have it, download the free Adaware spyware program and run it.

Thanks, but I have run three spyware programs - Xoft Spy, SpyBot and AdAware and none have found this bug.

I have gone on the Microsoft site and searched with no results.

Oddly, when I boot up and get this fatal error, I press OK and nothing else happens. I am accustomed to getting the blue screen of death and a total system crash, but not with this. Could it possibly be harmless?

Thanks,

This is definitely malware. Suggest you take it to the experts on the HijackThis board. Be sure to read the sticky here.

Hello NoFunBob999,

No need to take your log to the HijackThis forum...This IS the HijackThis forum.

I doubt you'll find anything relative in the add/remove programs utility but we need to look regardless.
Please click start-->control panel-->add/remove programs. Scroll through the list and see if you locate any program named Mom or even remotely similar. If located, click Remove. Reboot when the uninstall completes.

Next, please see if you can locate any of the following in your program files. If located, delete the files indicated in Bold text:
C:\program files\mom

Open a blank notepad and click on "Format" from the menu at the top. If Word wrap is checked, remove the check, then:
Copy the data between the lines below into notepad and save it as deletereg.reg
Set File type to "all files"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\app paths\mom.exe]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\nmsetc]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click that file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

The registry fix will only remove entries IF present.
It makes no changes if they don't exist.

Post back and let us know how the computer is running now. Thanks!
