for 1972Vet..important
Would you believe that after all the work you did, I woke up this morning and found the yellow update shield in the icon tray, tried to install and the following message displayed:
The following updates were not installed:
Security Update for Windows XP (KB939373)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)
Update for Windows XP (KB936357)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2007 (KB890830)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)
Update for Windows XP (KB936357)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2007 (KB890830)
What would the next steps be to getting this to once again auto install? Never had these problems before a month or 2 ago - just don't know what to do about this!!
Frustrating.....!

Run the application, and select to clean up .NET Framework 2.0 (DO NOT touch anything else).
After the cleanup, reboot and visit Windows Update.
Scan for updates but select only the .NET Framework 2.0 for installation.
Reinstall .NET Framework 2.0 and reboot.
Visit Windows Update again and install the other Security Updates found.
Hopefully everything will install cleanly now.

Scan for updates but select only the .NET Framework 2.0 for installation.
These are the choices available to me in update. Which should I install? 2.0 isn't listed.

You will see a window open and commands processing. When the
window closes the fix will have completed. You should be fine now.

Are you sure it automatically found it and downloaded it for you? It's not a critical update so it should not have...if it did, you are the first.
Windows Update if set to automatic, will only download and install your critical updates for you.
Return to Windows Update site and scan for updates. Click the link for Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 and check the box "Don't show this update again". Then click "Windows Update Home" and scan again...this time the update won't be shown.
You shouldn't be bothered again.

2. Click Start-->Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs.
For those just reading this thread:
Depending on your OS, you may have to click Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click once on any item listing Java Runtime Environment in the name (to highlight it) then click the "Remove" or "Change/Remove" button.
Not every version of Java will begin with "Java" so be sure to read each entry in the list.
Repeat step 3 as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
**If you are asked to reboot at any point during the uninstallations, please do so. Then go back to Add/Remove and continue with the rest of the removals...when finished uninstalling all of them, reboot the computer.
4. Navigate to and delete:
- C:\Program Files\ Java =this folder if found
5. Then go to this page.Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2
The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."and click the "Download" button to the right.
6. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement" the page will refresh and click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language. Save it to your desktop.
Then from your desktop double-click on the executable to install the newest version. Reboot when the installation completes.
Return to windows update and install what it finds. Reboot and post back your results.
