For PRECIOUS STONE

"I think my laptop has been infected with a very very bad virus. I think its name is ''ULTIMATE''. Yesterday I got a small window prompting me to click 'ok' to increase my laptop's speed. There was no other prompting; eg, ''run''; it started scanning my comp at high speed. Mcfee blocked it and says its 'quarantined' it. Now, I cannot work, because after every 1 minute I keep getting pop ups across the screen asking me to check for spyware in my comp. I keep cancelling but it doesnt seem to work. Its so so bad such that if i step out for about 10 minutes I come back to a screen that has about 6-9 such promptings all piled up on my screen. Its a nightmare.

I have ''hijacked this'' and because the log is too long, I have grouped it in pages 1 to page 21. Please help me, follow the pages patiently, its a lot."

There are several infections with the word "Ultimate" in their names, so we will need some more information.

First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger.
Reboot.

Download RogueRemover from the link below.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php
Double-click on rr-free-setup.exe to install in C:\Program Files\RogueRemover.
Navigate to the folder and double click on the file named RogueRemover.exe or use the icon that was created on your desktop.
Once the program runs, select Check for Updates.
When prompted, select Check for Updates.
If prompted again, click Download to receive the
latest updates.
When completed, close the update window.
Finally, select Scan and the program will walk you through the remaining steps.

Please delete your old version Hijackthis 1,99.1.

Please download HJT Installer for version 2.02 from Here to your desktop.
If not available use this alternate link: Here
  • Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.
  • It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.
  • The program will open automatically after installation.
  • You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.
  • The first time you open HijackThis, check the Main Menu button at the bottom center. When the main menu appears check the box "Show this window when I start HijackThis".
  • Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile." When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.
  • DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
  • Before closing HJT, please click on the AnalyzeThis button. "Analyze This" DOES NOT mean "Analyze My Log". You will need to post your log on the forum.
  • Close the web page that appears and then close the program

  • Also open HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.
Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
    Click the "Save List" button.
After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Pick a place to save it then the list should open in notepad.
Copy and paste that list here.

When you reply, make sure the font in your text editor is not too large. That is one of the reasons why it took so many pages for your log to be posted. If you need another post to fit everything, simply reply to yourself. That way it will not be necessary to start a new message for each page. Let me know if McAfee is still reporting an infection.Thanks. :)

She was posting logs here every few minutes about an hour ago. Her log has changed quite a bit since This one.

She also has an info stealer...probably picked up from one of the Indian infected web sites. She'll need to run ComboFix to remove these:
C:\WINDOWS\avp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mgrs.exe

Yes, I noticed that, but we need to get things down to less than 21 pages before we add MORE diagnostic logs to the mix.

As soon as a one-page HijackThis log and a one-page uninstall list is posted, we can proceed.

1. Please go to Add/Remove Programs and remove Hijackthis 1.99.1.

2. You have posted your uninstall list, but I need to see a log, too.
Please run a scan with your version 2.02 Hijackthis and post a your Hijackthis log below. Do not start a New Message. Simply reply to this one. Thanks. :)

I am really sorry for posting too many logs every few minutes. The 'hijack this' log that i got at the time was too long and the page, apparently does not accept more than 20000 characters at once. so i kept splitting them and posting and i wanted them to follow each other.
I am sorry.
I will post the new ''hijack this'' log because even after downloading ''rogue** and deleting ''some ultimates''  i still seem to have the virus.

Please be patient with me:smileywink:

Lucy, please print these instructions so you can follow them easily. You will be working in Safemode, so you will not have the internet available. Be brave. You can do this! Just take your time and follow each step.

Here we go...
To reboot into Safemode (The screen will look odd, but don't worry about it.):
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

Configure to show all files/folders:
Go to Start>Search and at the top select Tools>Folder Options
Select the View tab
Display the contents of system folders
Show hidden files and folders
Uncheck: Hide protected operating system files
Click on Apply.
Next go to the side of the Search box and select All files and folders. Go down to More advanced options.
Be sure the first three boxes are selected:
Search System folders
Search Hidden Files and folders
Search SubFolders

Please open HijackThis.
Please place a checkmark next to these:
O2 - BHO: MSVPS System - {C87D64B5-DF92-4703-90CB-B465B6982941} - C:\WINDOWS\qnxplugin.dll (file missing)

Close all windows except Hijackthis and click "Fix Checked".
Close HijackThis.

While still in Safemode, delete these files if they still exist:
C:\WINDOWS\ avp.exe --file
C:\WINDOWS\ mgrs.exe --file

Delete the Desktop Messenger FOLDER. You will find it inside the Logitech folder like this. Delete ONLY the Desktop Messenger folder here:
C:\Program Files\Logitech\ Desktop Messenger

Reboot your computer NORMALLY.

Go back and rehide protected files:
Start>Search and at the top select Tools>Folder Options
Select the View tab
Display the contents of system folders
Show hidden files and folders
Check: Hide protected operating system files
Click on Apply.

Finally, run HijackThis again and save a fresh log so you can post that here.
After I see your new log, we'll continue.

Thanks! :)

Excellent! Clapping 9
We have a bit more to do...

Please disable Windows Defender for now so it does not interfere with good changes that we need to make:

* Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
* Click on Tools, General Settings
* Under Real-time protection options, deselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
* Click Save

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Please run HijackThis and place a checkmark next to this. That thing on your Desktop is spyware:
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - http://as.casalemedia.com/s?s=61574&u=file%3A///E%3A/Lyle%2520Lovett%2520Lyrics%2520-%2520Smile%2520Lyrics.htm&f=3&id=5189623601.66702&if=0

Did you or an Administrator set this restriction? If not, fix this one as well:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked".
Close HijackThis.

* Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab
Select everything you find in there (except for "My current home page" ) and press the delete button on the right.
Hit ok below > apply in previous window.

Reboot

Let's do a follow-up online scan just to be sure nothing else is hiding in there:

Please perform a BitDefender Online Virus and Malware Scan
(Do not install Bitdefender trial anti-virus software. Simply run the online scan.)
  • Click on I Agree.
  • An ActiveX warning box will appear, click on Install.
  • Under Select What You Want To Check For Viruses.
  • Please Check My Computer and Click Ok
  • Now Click On Click Here To Scan
  • Next, Click on Click here to export the scan report
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • In your next reply, please include the Bitdefender log and a fresh Hijackthis log.

Let me know how things are running at that point.

Its so nice to see you congratulate me.:smileyhappy:

Before I complete the next task; I needed to say i was not able to remove files:
c\windows\avp.xe
c:\ windows\mgrs.exe

BUT, when i did a search in C; i found
avp-spyware removal module
company- msksoftstudy corp
version- 1.0.0.1

AND

avp.exe-023e55a4.pf
c:\windows\prefetch
type: pf file

AND for c:\windows\mgrs.exe
i found
mgrs - c:windows
AND
