Other browsers don't work.  Everytime I get anywhere close to finding out information it shuts me out.  I can google "Del-457" and get to information about it, but if I read it or try to select anything it shuts down.  It's very frustrating.

I thought of using system restore but found out that dell had system restore disabled when I bought the computer not very long ago and it never occured to me that it would be disabled until I tried to run system restore and found out it was disabled.

I can boot in safe mode, but I have norton installed on my computer and norton doesn't recognize that I have a problem.  I tried going to the mcafee website and running their virus scan since I knew I had a problem and they found it, but if I even try to click on the virus information it shuts me down.  Actually it shuts me down, if I close a pop up or just whenever it feels like it.

Have you tried using another browser in an attempt to view McAfee's removal instructions? Have you tried doing a System Restore back to a point before you got this trojan? Also, have you tried booting up in Safe Mode, then running McAfee?

To check it out...

Ok, go to "Windows Task Manager" and see if you can locate one of these two running processes:

 SYSUPD.EXE

 WINDOWSUPD.EXE

You should have at least one of these registry entries, which runs one of the above programs each time your computers starts up:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "SysUpd" = (path/filename to adware)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "WindowsUpd" = (path/filename to adware)

Removal Instructions:

For VirusScan 4.x users who would like to detect this program on their system, they can run the command line scanner with the /PROGRAM switch.

  1. Click the START button
  2. Click RUN
  3. Type COMMAND and hit ENTER
  4. Type:

    c:\progra~1\common~1\networ~1\viruss~1\4.0.xx\scan.exe c: /program /sub
    and hit ENTER.

Users running VirusScan 7 or later...

Open the "VirusScan On-Demand Scan Properties..." window.

Click the "Advanced" tab.

In the Non-viruses section, check:

Find potentially unwanted programs

Find joke programs.

Then "Scan Now".

See if that helps. Here's the link where this information was obtained.
