Go to www.trendmicro.com and click "Free Online Scan", then click "Scan now, it's free!". When it's down, select all available drives, then check(tick) "Auto clean", then click "Scan". Let's see if this will turn anything up also.
Now, let's run
HiJackThis, then:
1. click "
Config..."
2. click "
Misc Tools"
3. click "
Delete a file on reboot"
4. browse to, then
double-click on each of the file(s) below, one at a time, if present:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rfthhm.dll
5. when prompted to "
Reboot Now", after selecting each file, select "
No"
Now, let's open a
command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:
regsvr32 /u rfthhm.dll
It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to a command prompt to save on the typing.
Run
HiJackThis and click "
Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,SearchURL = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,SearchURL = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Verizon Online

Thank for the help Mike. I did exactly to what you told me to except the first part since there is no file like that in my System 32. However it would seem that the virus still manage to come back everytime I shut down my pc and turn it on again. Here is the new log after I follow your intruction and restart my PC.

This is going to be a tough one, i've just seen this thing continually mutate into every conceivable form of cws available, so with that in mind, let's toss then entire 'rack' at it! So get ready for some work. If you have any of the utilities below (and they are the most current version), then skip downloading them, but make sure the signatures are upto date.
Download and install Spybot S&D. Run it, then check for any updates, then exit.
Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
1. Run fxagentb.exe from Symantec.
2. Run CWShredder.
3. Run About:Buster, if it finds anything, run it one more time.
4. Run AdAware SE and "perform a full system scan". Let it remove anything it finds.
5. Run Spybot S&D and "Check for Problems". Let it remove anything it finds.
6. Use the HiJackThis solution I posted and use it to remove everything you can locate, alot of those entry(s) might not be availalbe in "Safe Mode".
7. Reboot your system normally.
8. Go to www.trendmicro.com and click "Free Online Scan", then "Scan now, it's free!". When it's downloaded, select all available drives, check(tick) "Auto Clean", then click "Scan".
9. Now, go back and repeat steps 1 - 5.
10. Post back a new log and we'll see if we were able to make dent. Also tell me which utilities were able to locate and remove anything.
Well, I do every single step according to your guide and it seem like all of them wasn't able to detect anything from my PC, additional to that, I also use the new Microsoft spyware and it also report nothing. In the end, after twice deleting it using HijackThis, one from safe mode and one from normal, it still manage to come back and download the trojan every single time I shut down my PC and turn it on. Here is the log after I did everything according to your guide:

Whoa! So none of them actually found anything? Ok, this may take sometime, so let's take this one small step at a time. First, let's see if we can remove any running processes, that shouldn't be there:
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
Dont' reboot your system again until we're completely done, and post back a new log and let me know if you've had any luck 'ending' those two processes.
Alright, I'm looking into the Process Management and it only found that the "xpsp2fw" is the only process that running running. So I did exactly to what u told and kill it process. And after that went into finding those two .exe file and delete them manualy. Here is the log after I did that

That's ok. Thanks for working with me on this one.
-
Ok, let's now do the same for this one:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\etsbasisa.exe
When you run HiJackThis and highlight the above entry (running process), check the number of tasks running, now "Kill process", then refresh the list and make sure it's gone. Next see if the number of running processes dropped down by one.
Let's see if we can delete some entries...
-
Run
HiJackThis and click "
Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
Alright Mike, did exactly as u said and delete the etsbasisa.exe. Here is the log after I follow every of you instruction

It's ok if some of them aren't found, just continue with the next one in the list. If you can't delete any of them because they're "in use", use the "Delete on reboot" option of HiJackThis and click "No" after browsing to and clicking on each file.
I have a gut feeling that there going to be some dll(s) and registry entry(s) to deal with on this one (something that's hidden and running in the background), so hold back on rebooting and post back a new log.
Mike.

1st step: It report that it was sucess in the attempt
2nd step: Only two 04 HKLM were found, wasn't able to locate the and delete the "02 BHO rfthhm.dll".
3rd step: I were able to delete both of them by manual and found no problem at all.
Here is the new log

Good work! Now, let's try doing this before you reboot:
-
1. Go to www.trendmicro.com and click "Free Online Scan", then "Scan now, it's free!". When it's down, select all available drives, check(tick) "Auto clean", then click "Scan".
2. Run AdAware SE Personal; update the defs and "perform a full system scan".
3. Run Spybot S&D; update the defs and "Check for Problems".
(If you don't have any of the above two programs, post back and i'll give you the links - they're completely free to download and use.)
4. Check your firewall and make sure that any programs that were cleaned off, do not have internet access.
Yes, it finally gone away :smileyvery-happy:. I reboot it and been surfing the net using IE for quiet sometime now, and so far it look like everything is back to normal. Thank you so much for all of your help and putting up with this problem Mike :smileyhappy:
But still, I must say that I'm really surpirce that all of the adware/spyware programs that I use (Norton 2004 AV, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, the MS spyware detection and a couple more) were unable to detect a single soul in this problem, very strange.
Anyway, here is the new log after the reboot:

Excellent work! I think i'm just as happy as you! There's alot of boards trying to remove that same problem who haven't been as lucky. The biggest problem with all the spyware busting apps, including the one from Microsoft, is: your system has to become infected before they will recognize it as a new threat, and produce definitions for it. So by the time new definitions come out to fix what you've had for awhile, something new has already been released onto unsuspecting users, and the infection cycle continues.
Let's do one more then before we close this out. Let's disable, then re-enable system restore; with a reboot in-between. Then, immediately create a new restore point manually. That way, if for some reason you need to use system restore in the future, you won't accidentally restore all the junk you've just successfully removed.
-
I think i'm done for the evening; time to get some rest ... :)
Thanks again, for working with me on that, and happy surfing,
Midnight Star

kai,
This is going to be a tough one, i've just seen this thing continually mutate into every conceivable form of cws available, so with that in mind, let's toss then entire 'rack' at it! So get ready for some work. If you have any of the utilities below (and they are the most current version), then skip downloading them, but make sure the signatures are upto date.
Download fxagentb from Symantec.
Download and unzip to your desktop CWShredder.
Download and unzip to your desktop About:Buster.
Download and install AdAware SE Personal SE. Run it and update the defs, then exit.

Kai,
Whoa! So none of them actually found anything? Ok, this may take sometime, so let's take this one small step at a time. First, let's see if we can remove any running processes, that shouldn't be there:
Run HiJackThis then:
1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"
-
Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
Next, locate and delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe
Make sure your able to view system and hidden files and folders.
Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XPSP2 Firewall] C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Update Client ] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
Dont' reboot your system again until we're completely done, and post back a new log and let me know if you've had any luck 'ending' those two processes.
Mike.

Kai,
Ok, let's squeeze this one down just a little more.
Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:
regsvr32 /u rfthhm.dll
It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to a command prompt to save on the typing.
Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A78860C8-EE1A-46DF-A97F-E3E6D433E80B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rfthhm.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [4i7tm5.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\4i7tm5.exe /k
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [4i7tm5.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\4i7tm5.exe /k
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
Locate and delete the following item(s), if present:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rfthhm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\4i7tm5.exe

Kai,
Ok, that takes care of all the running processes that I can see, now let's take a pass at these:
-
Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://aflashcounter.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,SearchURL = http://aflashcounter.com/?a=2
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.69sexsearch.com
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
Don't reboot just yet, and post back a new log.

Kai,
-
Ok, lets reboot and see what comes up...
Mike.

Kai,
Excellent work!
Thanks again, for working with me on that, and happy surfing,
Mike.
