Thank you so much for responding to me so quickly:) I have gotten on by uninstalling the anti-virus program in Safe Mode that was on that disk and then restarting and got on just fine, but I know the problem is still here. McAfee does not detect any of these problems, but I haven't renewed the subscription there and don't have updated definitions since February. Anyhow, I am going to run Hi Jack now and see what it says. I will be back later with the results. Thank you again ;o(

Thanks for your advice NAVIN KURIAN. Unfortunately, I've tried what you said and it still doesn't work. My screen is still without my icons and task bar. Only got the background screensaver and nothing else. Any other suggestions??? Or can anyone else help me PLEASE???!!!
Please unzip Hijackthis.zip into a new folder you create in the root level of the C: drive. Name this folder C:\HJT for best and safest results. (don't put in a temp folder, or the desktop, etc...as it needs a safe folder to keep backup logs). Also when people post here and place it on the Desktop the log usually shows their full name since their Windows user profile is commonly named with their full name. We try not to disturb your privacy. *;-)
Run Hijackthis, click on the 'scan' button and then 'save log' button. Copy and paste the contents of the text file you save into a reply to this message. A lot of posters make mistakes here in copying and pasting so reread the left info sidebar called Copy and Paste at

I am not really sure if you are talking to me. I didn't start this thread but replied on it thinking it was mine ( I was very upset about my problem and messed up...sorry). I went ahead and sent you my hijack result and was hoping you would have time to look at it for me and see if I need to do more. I ran spybox and adware between the tests. Thank you so much for your help and I am sorry for my mistake.

Do an online virus scan from the links here
http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/compsafetyonline.html#AV
IF the online scans detect a virus then you could get one of the trial antivirus programs to keep you protected till you get a full version
download and run vexira
http://www.centralcommand.com/downloads.html
click on try next to
Vexira Antivirus for Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me
or
Vexira Antivirus for Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP Workstations
according to the type of Operating system you have
keeps clicking next/ok and install it will say the licence file cannot
be copied click ok and continue
I have found vexira to delete a lot if not most of the common types of
