Welcome :) We are reviewing you log and will reply soon. Thank you for waiting patiently.

Hello snowgolfin,

Welcome to the Dell Forums,

My name is docholoway and I will be helping you with your HijackThis Logs.

* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.

* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it.
Definition of cracked software:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking

* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.  The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state.

A list of P2P's is here: http://www.castlecops.com/t204179-P2P_programs_we_ask_that_you_remove_first.html

* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?

* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.

* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.

* Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.

** We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case.

Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

* If your replies do not fit in one post while we are handling your issue, please reply to yourself until all text is submitted. It may take several posts.

Please be patience while I get your issue sorted out.

Thanks

docholoway

Hello snowgolfin,

Please download Suspicious File Packer from here.

Unzip it to your desktop. Open it and copy and paste in this list of files below
When it has created the archive on your desktop please upload that to the forum here.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pokonycs.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cordsylv.dll

Here are the directions for uploading the file:

Just click "New Topic", fill in the needed details (Title of Topic: Vundo for nosirrah) and post a link to your thread here. Click the "Browse" button. Navigate to the file on your computer. When the file is listed in the window click "Post" to upload the file.
Be sure you post the link to this thread in that topic.

Your thread link is:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_hijack&message.id=83990&jump=true#M83990

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

* Click the Scan for Vundo button.

* Once it's done scanning, click the Fix Vundo button.

* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES

* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.

* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

-- If you receive this error: "Run-time error '339': Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid", please download Comdlg32.ocx, place it in your C:\Windows\system32 folder and try running VundoFix again.

*** You are using an outdated version of HijackThis.

Please remove your older version of HJT then follow the instructions listed below.

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Close all other windows except HijackThis.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Before closing HJT, please click on the AnalyzeThis button. "Analyze This" is for use by TrendMicro and DOES NOT mean "Analyze My Log". You will need to post your log in the forum. Close the web page that appears and then close the program HJT.

* Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
