help!

i just recently bought my laptop w/ windows vista and all of a sudden i got spyware. so i installed a anti-spyware program and from then on for some reason i cant have a wallpaper background. i can only use the colors, and no pictures. can anyone help me or should i just do a recovery.

backup your data and hit f8 on bootup and restore your system like the day you got it.

WHICH "anti-spyware" program did you install??? ---- there are many "rogue" programs, that masquerade themselves as being anti-spyware, when in fact that are malware itself!!   Not being able to change your wallpaper is typically a sign of a Smitraud variant...

i used Mcafee total protection.

that's certainly a legitimate program.   have you checked through its options/preferences, to see if it indicates "protecting" your desktop/wallpaper/background??

it says it protects and backups, photos, music, and files.  i'm either going to call dell about it or do a recovery.

Dell charges for spyware/virus removal. You're better off taking advice from the forums for free :smileytongue:

and about the wallpaper thing it works fine in the guest account. but i think i'll just do a restore thing.

Restoring should fix it, but if not, due to the fact that the problem started after installing McAfee's product, their forums may help:
