I don't see anything that jumps out at me, although HJT does not see everything. So I'd point my finger at hardware...check the cables and DSL modem (they do die...I have found several before at client's homes). If possible bring a known working laptop or PC to that DSL modem and see if you can get on. Or do more troubleshooting with a better Verizon person. Of course I'm sure you have unplugged the DSL modem and plugged it back in? *;-)
If the modem and cables are good then it's back to Windows and take a look at MSIE or Windows corruption.
Edit: you do need to install SP2 as soon as you get back online.
Thanks...actually I do read PMs (when I see them up on the little top bar) *;-)
Could be CWS...I don't specialize in the dozens of CWS versions and all the convoluted removals so I will plead temporary distraction (I drove halfway across Texas today and I'm about done for tonight).
To original poster : download and run CWShredder...have it FIX, not scan: http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe see if you get any hits from Merijn's cleaner.
Reboot to regular mode. Download and install Adaware, Spybot S&D, and Microsoft Antispy. Run all three. After completing download and run Cleanup! Links here:
Thanks to all who posted help. I will try these things. Just FYI - I can not install SP2. This is another big issue. No matter what I try it will not install. It downloads files, backs up files, trys to install - then stops and says "access denied" I have talked to Microsoft about this and they have advised me to do several different things...nothing works. I do realize that not having SP2 is a big security gap, but what to do?????
I ran the shredder. Nothing. I have already scanned with all virus/spyware mentioned. Several times. The programs do find spyware and sometimes a trojan. It deletes all the stuff and I reboot. Still have the problem of spyware, adware, etc. getting back on my computer. Do you think it could be because I don't have SP2? BTW this really became a huge problem after we got our DSL connection. Before that, with dial-up we didn't really see any problems. I keep Webroot Spy sweeper on, plus the Mcafee stuff. I am getting extremely frustrated. If anyone can point me to help w/the SP2 issue, I'd greatly appreciate it.
