Clientman is a tough nut...do this after deleting the entry.
Turn off System Restore. Without rebooting run Spybot S&D and then Adaware:
Download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware). Use Spybot first.
Follow the directions in this detailed guide for Spybot and Adaware...go slow on the directions for the custom setup of Adaware:
http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html
Reboot and run Windows Disk Cleanup after cleaning with those two tools. Make sure you reboot if any reboot cleanup functions of Spybot and Adaware are advised by these tools (this may happen at the end of their cleanup).
Reboot and click on Start/Run/ type: cleanmgr
I check all the selected items to be deleted here.
Re-enable System Restore. Report back on your progress.

Texruss,
Followed your directions to the tee. Spybot, Adaware and CWshredder are finding nothing now. System restore, disk clean-up, etc all seem good. Below is my latest hijackthis. How does it look?
I am getting very good at cleaning up spyware, but not so good at preventing it. Can you help educate me? How do we keep getting hit with the spyware?
This computer is our newer Dell running Win XP Home. I am very seldom on this computer. I use our older Dell running Win98. That computer hardly ever has problems. My wife and son use this computer. We've had the family discussions about virus's and good clean computing habits. I think they are good about not opening attachments and staying away from bad web sites, but how do we tell? My wife teachs Kindergarden and goes to a lot of school related web sites. My son admits that he goes to a web site with games, but swears he doesn't download anything. I cleaned this computer thoroughly before this last spyware attack and less than 24hrs later, it is hit again. Arrgghh! My son goes to homestarrunner dot com and another site called miniclip dot com. Are they the problem? I am running my computers on a router and cable modem. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again Texruss, you've been a great help.
Luke

Fix again in HJT:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {447160CD-ECF5-4EA2-8A8A-1F70CA363F85} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mslkgc.dll
Clientman again...
Maybe my fault...a little tired last night and I should have added:
Reboot in Safe Mode and delete the file mslkgc.dll in the path above.
Here's the stay clean answer (premature) for when you get all clear. *;-)
1. The main cleanup programs...they are reactive...not proactive:
Spybot Search&dDestroy, Ad-aware Run weekly - or after a heavy internet session.
Chris has posted an excellent tutorial by dgosling on how to run Spybot S&D and also how to enable customized deep scanning functions for Adaware. Once you set these options they will be retained for future scans by Adaware.
Follow the directions in this detailed guide for Spybot and Adaware...go slow on the directions for the custom setup of Adaware:
http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html
I also like to run Windows Disk Cleanup after cleaning with those two tools. Make sure you reboot if any reboot cleanup functions of Spybot and Adaware are advised by these tools (this may happen at the end of their cleanup).
Reboot and click on Start/Run/ type: cleanmgr
I check all the selected items to be deleted here.
2. Proactive programs: Spywareblaster & Spywareguard, first sets kill bits to stop known bad MSIE ActiveX scripts from installing, second acts like your AV to stop browser hijacks and installing of known baddies.
3. IE-Spyad, puts 4000 bad sites in your restricted (banned) sites list, to stop you accidentally getting sent to a bad site, it has optional list of "bad" adult sites to install as well.
Links for these at: http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/compsafetyonline.html
4. Don't forget keeping Windows updated. The automatic updates frequently fail so run it manually once a week or when new updates are publicized.
Windows Live Update Page
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
Free Windows Security CD (for those who qualify):
www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp
5. Keep your antivirus updated.
Free AVG Antivirus for home users: http://www.grisoft.com
6. Practice safe computer habits. Don't click on strange email attachments thinking your AV will defend you. Usually it will. Sometimes it won't when a new virus hits the Net and definitions take hours to create by the AV vendors. There is only one defense that works 100% for the safe protection of your machine's personal data and that is timely and accurate backups of your files. Hard drives die, viruses ruin your files, and other bad things can happen (fire, theft, etc..). Offsite backups are the best.
7. Don't forget our great analysis tool Hijackthis. We have a lot of gratitude we need to show towards the author Merijn. I hope he does great things in his future endeavors and is richly rewarded for his time and expertise in providing this super program.
Hijackthis (to analyse your system and submit a log file to expert forums):
http://tomcoyote.com/hjt
(for Hijackthis logs...please copy to and run Hijackthis.exe into a new folder you create in the root level of the C: drive. Name this folder HJT for best and safest results). (don't put in a temp folder, or the Windows desktop, etc...as it needs a safe folder to keep backup logs). Also when people post here and place it on the Desktop the log usually shows their full name since their Windows user profile is commonly named with their full name. We try not to disturb your privacy. *;-)

Texruss,
Clientman still got me. I cleaned up with spybot, adaware and cwshredder. Can not find the file you described above in my HJT file. Have not gone into safe mode yet. Here is another (most recent) copy of my HJT file. Which one is the evil client man?? Should I go into safe mode to nail it?
Thanks ,Luke

Don't see it in the latest log...are you having any issues?
The log before had this Clientman entry:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {447160CD-ECF5-4EA2-8A8A-1F70CA363F85} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mslkgc.dll

Texruss, The only issues I am having is a consistent pick up of "Clientman" files whenever I run adaware and spybot. My wife said she thought there were more pop-ups than usual.
I will keep an eye on it. Other than that, any other ideas?
Thanks,
Luke

I notice you have the google toolbar installed, but can't see from the entries which version.
If you don't have the version with the popup stopper, might I suggest you uninstall the current version, and visit www.google.com and get the current version, with its very good popup blocker.
If you are then still getting lots of popup adverts post back with a fresh hijackthis log for us.

Texruss,
Still having bizare problems. It seems my Hijackthis file (latest below) is changing all the time. The file you identified is gone (I didn't delete it, it just diappeared), but my latest Hijackthis has additional suspicious files in the System32 area that weren't there before. The Google toolbar entry that ChrisRG identified above is gone, but I didn't remove. Very strange! I am quite certain that Clientman is still there. We are getting the following problems: unwanted pop-ups, underlined links embedded into pages, browser problems and slower running. I am not going to run spybot, adawar or cwshredder until I get a Hijactthis reading from you on the log below. I think these programs may have been good for the temp situation, but may have been hiding the long term problem. Once I delete the baddies thru Hijackthis, then I will re-run spybot, adaware and CWShredder. My Win XP Home is update with all the latest patches, etc and my NAV is current and up to speed. Once I get it cleaned, I will get on top of some additional preventative measures. As always thank you for your help.
Luke

Chris,
Did as you directed. Fresh log below. The ISP locations are correct. I am running two computers thru a Linksys Router. I am curious if the client entries in the Napster lines have anything to do with Napster. We downloaded the new pay-for-music napster software months ago. Could we have gotten Client thru Napster or is that a coincidence?
How's this new log look? Will also download Google toolbar as you recommended earlier above.
Thanks again, Luke

Well it looks clean now - BUT we have some new malware that is able to hide from it, so if you have problems sill do say.
Re the 016 lines, I always recommend the removal of all 016's (ActiveX Controls) from non mainstream companies. They will reinstall when you return to that website so are safe to do so. Also if you install spywareblaster/guard the bad ones will not be able to install.
Some Napster 016's are advised to me by my tools as malware, some don't. These two were not advised as malware, but I don't count them as a mainstream company, so better safe than sorry.
=======================================
This is my normal post for when you are clear - which you now seem to be - please advise of any problems :-
------------------------
How on earth did I get infected with all that spyware in the first place? http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=38;t=3051
Also available from here :- http://www.computercops.biz/postlite7736-.html or http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957
--------------
Look at the info on my website regarding malware (Link below). Some things you can do to stop getting infected again:-
Spybot s&d, Ad-aware Run weekly - or after a heavy internet session.
Spywareblaster & Spywareguard, first sets kill bits to stop known bad activeX controls installing, second acts like your AV to stop browser hijacks and installing of known badies.
Also ie-spyad (Link on my site), puts 4000 bad sites in your restricted (banned) sites list, to stop you accidentaly getting sent to a bad site, it has optional list of "bad" adult sites to install as well.
All those with links from my site. Do remember just like Anti-Virus they need to be updated regularly, I do mine weekly, Anti-Virus hourly.
With these and a firewall in place I have to try various bad sites when checking peoples hijackthis logs looking to sort bad from good, and I have not yet been infected. Still time for it to happen LOL.

Chris,
Thank you so much. I can't tell you all the evil painful torture I'd like to inflict upon the people who do these spyware and virus's!
Luke
