Caution here. Deleting files from Winsock LSP may cause loss of internet connectivity. I don't know if that is the case here, but I would suggest waiting for one of the forum experts before deleting those lines and file.

Greetings Cathy,

I see a few things that need to be fixed...

First, put HijackThis in a folder under C:\ named HJT

Next, checkmark these to be fixed...

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Band Class - {BDF6CE3D-F5C5-4462-9814-3C8EAC330CA8} - C:\WINNT\AdRoar.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdRoarUpdate] C:\WINNT\ARUpdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SearchSetter] C:\WINNT\System32\searchsetter[1].exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [eZWO] C:\PROGRA~1\Web Offer\wo.exe

I also saw a few other entries that seemed suspicious... When was your last virus scan? How about running one, along with an AdAware (http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button) scan and a Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp) scan. I'm going to be serious here... You've got alot of spyware. Running AdAware  and Spybot Search & Destroy is pretty much number one on the "To Do List"... Virus scan can wait.

Also... Upgrading to XP Service Pack 1 has now become a necessity for you. All of this spyware means "open doors", which anyone can come into. Go to the Windows Update site, and download just SP1. Uncheck everything else. Download it, install it, follow all of the instructions and such, then go back to Windows Update, and get all of the critical updates.

In closing, I highly reccomend you to get a firewall. This will keep out all hackers, trojan droppers, and other baddies. Zone Alarm makes a very good, free, firewall that I use myself - http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?lid=nav_za

Thx Derf... I'm glad you pointed that out!
I just looked that file up on google, saw some kind of adware name right next to it, and immediately figured it was an adware... I'll edit my post so the file doesn't get deleted.

God, I hope that training application at TomCoyote goes through... I feel like I could use that right about now.

Thank you for all your help.  I ran spybot, adaware and also installed the Zone Alarm.

I think I already have the XP Service Pack 1?

Here is my new log:

You do not have SP1 installed. A logfile with SP1 installed would look like this...

Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7
Scan saved at 10:12:09 AM, on 7/26/2004
Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)

That's what's at the top of my logfile.

You've got some stuff that I missed, and some stuff that didn't get removed, or came back after removal...
Delete these, then run another scan, and post it up here...

What I'd like you to do, is go to the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files and delete the "WinTools" folder. This should rid you of the WinTools spyware trash.
