Hey sammasond,

Before starting an analysis of your HJT log, have you disabled the messenger service (NOT to be confused with MSN or Windows Messenger.)on your machine?  To do this Click Control Panel=>Administrative Tools (You must have Administrator rights to do this)=>Services.  Scroll down the list until you reach "Messenger. RIGHT click and choose Properties.  In the Properties window, under the "General" tab, look for Startup type.  In the drop down box, click "Disabled".  Ok your way out.  See if that helps.

I saw a couple of lines in your log file that might need attention, but I'll discuss them with Chris RLG, who has a lot more experience than I do, then he, or one of the other advanced members will get back to you.  Or, with their ok, I will.

Good luck

First move hijackthis to a non temporary folder.  Create one and then move it.

THen go here -> http://mjc1.com/files/peperpage/uninst.exe and run the peper trojan uninstaller.  If your firewall asks permission grant it.

Then have hijackthis fix all the following that remain.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank

Boot to safe mode and delete the following:

Post another log when through.

Yellowman, spotcheck,

I take that back...it was working well, then I got a Guess Who pop up. Also, it's interesting there's a quick 'blip' of a full screen before the pop-up resizes to it's normal size...unlike a normal involuntary pop-up coming from javascript on a site.
