It will take a couple of runs at this to completely remove the infection so please be patient.

1. Spyware Doctor's OnGuard protective functionality may interfere with certain HijackThis fixes we need to make. Please follow these instructions to disable it:

To deactivate Spyware Doctor's OnGuard Tools

1. From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
2. Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

You can reenable it once your system is clean.

2.Please download the Killbox.
1)Save it to the desktop
2) Rt Click->>Extract all->.Extract it to your Desktop
3) Double Click Killbox.exe to run it
4)Select " Delete on Reboot", and then select "All files".
5) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\sbwltbxa.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\mvqjmver.dll
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\vihukeso777444.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\qhgjofix.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\bkzofmzw.dll

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose " Paste from Clipboard".
7) Click the red-and-white " Delete File" button.  Click " Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.

3. Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries

Allright took care of that last step and here's my new log.  This process is downright fun, i'm second-hand fulfilling a desire to actually be computer savvy.  I'm not getting pop-ups which is great.  The task manager is still "disabled by the administrator" and my desktop (usually an island oasis) is still that blue screen with "Warning: Spyware threat has been detected on your PC".  Figured  an update might help : )  Thanks,

Greg

Good news, for the first time when I changed my desktop back to Azul it actually remained (after a restart and everything) instead of the Spyware looking background.  Victory appears imminent.

1. Reset the desktop components
  • Click Start ->> Control Panel ->> Display.
    Another window will open
Under the Desktop tab Select Customize Desktop
    Another window will open
Under the Web tab delete everything in the Web pages box except " My current Home Page"
Then Select O.k.->> Then Apply ->> Then O.K.

2. Go HERE and download WormFix

Save it to your Desktop. But do not run it yet.

3. Reboot into Safe Mode
This can be done by
  • Restart your PC, and after it starts, but before you see the Windows Splash screen
Begin tapping the F8 key twice a second untill you reach another menu screen (black background with white menu choices)
Use your arrow keys and select Safe Mode and then Enter

4. Close all Internet Explorer Windows and Run WormFix
  • Double click the WormFix.Zip file to unzip it.
    Open the WormFix Folder
Double Click WormFix.vbe to run the program
Then Select O.K. at the prompt
Allow the program to run (Your desktop will disappear, then re-appear. This is normal)
When it is finished it wil produce a log C:\WormFix.txt
Copy and paste the results of that log in your reply

5. Then reboot your PC into Normal Windows Mode->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hiajckthis log.
As well as the C:\WormFix.txt log

Note: you may have to post the results in more than one reply

Hey there,

Ran into a problem with the Wormfix program.  I downloaded it, started the computer in safe mode and unzipped it.  First I noticed I don't have an option for  WormFix.vbe   there's only one icon in the folder and when I open the program, it says it will produce a log, the desktop disappears/reappears, and then the textpad opens up only producing this every time:

========================================
WormFix

Version 1.0.5

By bamajim @ CastleCops.com

Nothing more than that.  Wathcha think?

The file in the folder is WormFix.vbe. However, there is a newer version download it from the same link you used previously. Then reun the program

But before you do that, did your Taskmanager return?

So good things are happening here.  In addition to desktop and task manager now being restored, I ran SpyDoctor 3 times and now there are officially no threats being detected (full and intelliscan).  Previously it would uncover about 150 or so every time I ran it, even it I'd run it back to back.  I was thinking of downloading the free AVG anti-virus software, not sure if my computer's ready for it yet however.  Thanks again,

Good news the task manager's back to normal!  Downloaded wormfix again and still no luck, it will not produce a log just leaves your automated signature.  And the desktop is back to normal as well.  Do I need to keep working with Wormfix?  I'll post my HJT log:

No need to run WormFix again. It has done it's job. I just wanted to make sure there were no more infected files that were included in the newer version. And you got a clean slate, that's why there is nothing but the header.

Let's take one more look to be sure we are clean.

Please perform an Ewido Online Malware Scan

  • When a dialog box appears asking you if you would like to download and install the ewido anti-spyware online scanner please click Yes to allow the download.
  • Click on Start Scan.
  • after the scan completes it will produce a log for you, copy and paste the results of that scan as a reply to this thread
  • If any infections are found, (After you save the logfile), Click on Remove Infections.

You may now remove/delete/uninstall the tools we used to clean your PC

Now that your log is clean

There are some final notes:
Disable and Enable System Restore
  • Lets create a clean System Restore point
    the instructions are here

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of
    Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.u5.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the " Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: " Accept License Agreement".
    The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Update your Anti Virus Software

Use and maintain a Firewall There is a list HERE
  • All of which are free

Download and install SiteHound by Firetrust for protection against malicious websites.

Pick the version that matches your browser

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently for critical updates

Backup your Important Documents and Files on a regular basis
  • To a disc or a USB key, not your Hardrive

Good stuff.  I've now got a firewall, windows updates, new virus protection program, and a system restore point.  Thanks so much for your help, that was a great process and you've restored most importantly my piece of mind!
