Please print out these instructions, or save to a text file that you can view, as you are going to be offline for part of the cure, and will not have access to them.

Please download the following programs:
Ewido - http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Ad-Aware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
Spybot Search and Destroy - http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

Microsoft Antispyware - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en

Spyware Blaster - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html

CWShredder - http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/online-tools/cwshredder.exe

The next step will be to update and use each program. Follow the below instructions in the correct order, and only run one program at a time.

The first program to run is cwshredder.
1.Open cwshredder.
2.Agree to license
3.Scan only
4. Remove infections if found.

The next program we will use is ewido.
1. Open Ewido
2. Look on the left side of the program for a button that says update and press it.
3. Click Start update. Ewido might close automatically but it will open back.
4.Click Scanner.
5. Click Full System Scan.

Now ewido will scan your pc for malware. If it finds anything a pop up box will come up and ask if you would like to remove it. Choose yes.

The next program you will use is Microsoft Antispyware.
1. Open MS antispyware
2. File>Check for updates.
3.Next click on the button that says scan options that is below quick scan.
4.Check Full scan and all the boxes below it.
5. Now click Run Scan Now

Once MS antispyware is done and you have removed everything move on to adaware.
1. Open Adaware
2. Press the globe icon on the top right and download the updates.
3. Click Scan now and check full system scan.
4. Press scan now.

Then next program will be spybot search and destroy.
1. Open spybot
2. Press update and download everything it finds.
3. Now click search and destroy and start the scan.

The next program to use is spyware blaster.
1. Open spyware blaster.
2. Click updates and check for updates
3. Go back to the protection tab and press "enable all protection"
4. Exit Program.

The final step will be to reboot your computer.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Here's the fix:

1. Reboot your computer into Safe-Mode
if you don't know how, then go here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for:
rlvknlg.exe
fgwgvw.exe

woyapa.exe
If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.

3. Run HijackThis and click "Scan Only." Place checks next to the following entries:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=

5. Delete the following if present:
c:\windows\system32\rlvknlg.exe
c:\windows\system32\fgwgvw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\woyapa.exe reg_run
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Thank you for your help so far ~ Some of it worked, some hasn't.... For example, in the step with the ADAware.. I couldn't get any updates.. I did however RUN The adaware program. The Spybot said "error retreiving update info file... socket error #11004" so I couldn't run it whatsoever. This has happened with my antivirus for a while now (like a wk). It isn't able to get any updates for email protection, so my email protection is actually not even working at this time :( I don't know what to do about it.

Only one of the 3 processes were in the task manager at the end where you asked me to delete.

Here's my new HJT log:

*****ALSO****NOW everytime I turn on my computer it says the following in a popup box:
"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way windows starts.

The systems configuration utility is currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed & the utility to run everytime windows starts.

Choose the normal startup mode on the General tab to start windows normally and UNDO the changes you made using the system configuration utility." Then has a box to check to choose to not show the message or launce the system configuration utility when windows start.

I click ok and then the system configuration utility window comes up. Regardless if I click ok or cancel (without changing anything) it then tells me I need to restart my computer. I did the first time, but after that just chose exit without restarting.

Could you advise me on this also???? THANKS SOOO MUCH.

to x86 (and MarineWife):

please be advised that MarineWife posted a copy of her most recent log in a separate thread, here:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_hijack&message.id=26909#M26909

at which point, another "helper" entered, and offered her some [in my understanding, BAD] "advice" (to use HJT to remove the O10's).   you might want to look into that thread, to see what's going on.

Thank you. The other post I made has this same report. I did NOT follow that other advice after reading what others had said that it wasn't Good advice. So, just so ya know, that the info should still be accurate b/c I haven't changed anything else since this report posted :) Ya'll have a wonderful day!! I'll be checking back for an update :)

x86

if you're still following this thread:

be advised that i "broke into" the thread, only to alert you to the possibility that MarineWife might have inadvertently obtained some bad advice by posting separately elsewhere.   i was not attempting to take this thread away from you.

i see that she has replied, indicating she did not follow the other (bad) advice... but that you haven't followed-up since then.    this thread is yours to continue working with... unless/until you explicitly decline to do so.

if you do wish to "opt out", please let someone (such as zbestwun2001 or RKinner) know, so that they can take over.   [i myself am not in a position to take it over, as i don't have adequate knowledge on the use of LSPfix]

Hi

Your previous helper didn't finish up your log nor catch a couple entries

Let's just finish up and get you on your way.

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Download LSPFix and unzip to your desktop, then run it. Now, we need to:

1. check(tick) " I know what i'm doing".
2. click on (highlight) each occurance of the following, one at a time:

rlls.dll

3. then click " >>", moving each one, individually, to the 'Remove' pane.
4. (double-check, and make sure that only the above files are in the 'Remove'pane.)
5. click " Finish >>"

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click " Config..."
2. Click " Misc Tools"
3. Click " Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {18FF4E5A-BC43-29C2-8251-66550FD67B3D} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\rombfxj.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B12129EC-B0DE-1096-1DF1-853085660F97} - C:\WINDOWS\Lsmddowm.dll (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: Search - {8DB58C92-796F-09C9-D929-18519A8B6A18} - C:\WINDOWS\Lsmddowm.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyHunter] C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter\SpyHunter.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [vmhset] C:\WINDOWS\System32\vmhset.exe

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src ( or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group

files...
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vmhset.exe
c:\windows\system32\rlls.dll

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Reboot and post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Steve.

*****Things seem to be ok. The file C:\WINDOWS\System32\vmhset.exe was not there.. however vmhelper.dll is present. I didn't know if it was in relations or not. I didn't touch it.. just wanted to let you know.

AND... there's still the part from the previous post where the info pops up each time I start my computer telling me how I used the Systems Configuration Utility (see above in the post that you replied to *at very bottom of post*).

I am still unable to use Yahoo messenger. I can log in, but it then freezes, and won't show any info. Hopefully, my computer will start running better and faster. Am I supposed to let ALL of the programs that x86 had me download run all of the time? Like.. Ewido, MS Antispyware, plus my Antivirus and firewall? Just checking.

Again, I really THANK YOU for everything!

When the system utility popup appears, put a check in the box and click OK it shouldn't appear the next time you boot up.

The programs that he asked you to download are good programs and are fine.

As far as Yahoo Messenger, I am not sure why that is happyening. I would try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that helps.

One more change using HJT now:

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcyv - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ddcyv.dll (file missing)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Reboot and post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

The log looks good.
Close down all unnecssary programs from launching at start up and see if that helps

Let's clean up our mess.

This is my normal post for when you are clean - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have :-

Here are some last minute instructions.

  • Download and run CleanUp and clean up all the junk we have left.

  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
  • You can find instructions on how to enable and re enable system restore here:
    Managing Windows Millennium System Restore
    or
    Windows XP System Restore Guide
re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

          8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
      6. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

      7. Use an Anti Virus Software
        - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
      8. Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus

      9. Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

      10. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
      11. Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls

      12. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

      13. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
      14. This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
        Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

      15. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
      16. Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

      17. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
      18. Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

      19. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
      20. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

To close down programs that launch at startup go to

Start--Run--type in msconfig and open the Startup tab.

Uncheck ever unneccesary program that is starting at boot up.

      Click "OK"

      Reboot.
