Research shows that you should not remove the MoviePass software before you call to cancel the account they have open for you (If you have the MoviePass pop-ups, most likely they have an account for you, and somehow got billing information.).
They will require a number from their software to deactivate your account. Removing the Moviepass TV software will not stop them from charging you.
The phone number that has been given to cancel is this: (866) 431-7720. (I have not verified that this is reliable, so you are doing this at your own risk.)
Alternatively, The Moviepass Terms of Service state "You can cancel your MoviePass™ Membership at any time by going through the Customer Service page located at
www.members.moviepass.tv/customerservice If you are sure that this company has no contact or billing information for you, and that someone in your household did not give them this information, go ahead and remove the software:
You can read more here:
http://profend.com/answers/moviepass.html
The removal procedure is as follows:
Please download and install Ewido --
1. Download
Ewido Security Suite from
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe 2. After the download is complete, double click on the file to launch the install process.
3. During installation under the Additional Options menu, you will be asked if you want to "Install background guard (required for automatic updates)" and "Install scan via context menu". Please UNCHECK both of these options.
4. Once installation is complete, launch Ewido by double-clicking the big "E" icon on your desktop. The program will prompt you to update -- click the 'OK' button.
5. The program will now go to the main screen. On the left hand side of the main screen, click on Update and then click 'Start Update'. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, you will see 'Update Successful' in the lower left corner.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
Please reboot into Safe Mode:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key (or F5 on some computers)
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.
When your computer is booted into Safe Mode, then continue.
6. Click on 'Scanner' (the 3rd bar from the top on the left) and Choose 'Settings'
7. Please make sure 'Scan Every File' is selected. Finally, please click 'OK'
8. On the main screen, please select 'Complete System Scan' and the scan should begin.
9. While the scan is in progress, you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose Remove, then put a check next to 'Perform action on all infections' in the the box. Doing this, enables the scan to proceed automatically until its completion. Click OK.
10. When the scan is complete, click "Save Report".
Your scan results will be saved in a textfile. Please submit that with your next post.
If Ewido "crashes" or "hangs" during the scan, try scanning again by doing this:
1. Scan one sector of the system at a time by using the "Custom Scan" feature. To do this select Scanner > Custom Scan and click on Add drive/directory/file. Browse to C:\Windows > System, add this folder to the list and click on "Start Scan". When the scan is complete, repeat the Custom Scan but this time, browse to and add the System32 folder. Then keep repeating this procedure until all your folders have been scanned. Make sure you include the Documents & Settings folder.
2. If this still does not help, then turn the ADS scanner off while making a Custom Scan. To do this select Scanner > Scan Settings and untick "Scan in NTFS Alternate Data Streams". Then repeat the steps above for performing a Custom Scan.
Note: Ewido is a free trial product for 14 days. Since Ewido is a trial version, the realtime guard and automatic update will stop functioning after 14 days that is why we are not installing the guard so it will not interfere with the cleanup or the malware removal process. You can use Ewido as an on-demand scanner (recommended) but you will have to manually update the definition file each time you scan. If you decide to purchase Ewido, you can enable the 'Realtime Protect' and 'Automatic Update' functions by clicking on the 'Status' bar (Top left) and clicking on both items under "Your Security Status".
Still in Safemode continue...

Good job! I hope you are no longer bothered by moviepass.
We will need to move Hijackthis and its Backups to one folder in order for the tool to work correctly.
Rightclick on an empty space on your desktop and choose New > Folder
Name it HijackThis (HJT, or whatever)
Rightclick HijackThis.exe, choose Cut.
Doubleclick (to open) the folder you created.
Rightclick inside and choose Paste.
Do the same with the Backups folder. Now HijackThis.exe and the Backups folder are in one location.
Reboot into Safemode again and please launch
HijackThis.
Place a checkmark next to these items:

The following are
optional to fix because they use resources at Startup and may be unnecessary depending on your needs:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe
(Sun Java update scheduler that hecks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CARPService] carpserv.exe
(carpserv.exe is installed alongside Zoltrix and Conexant modems and enables the internal modem speaker, which allows you to listen to the dial-up process. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference)
Close all windows except Hijackthis and click "Fix Checked".
Reboot normally.
Run
Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.
If everything is running well, let's create a new Restore Point so you have a clean one to go back to:
1. Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> System Restore.
2. Select the Create A Restore Point radio button. Then click Next.
3. Enter a descriptive name for your new restore point. For example, "Clean system". Then click Next.
4. A new restore point will now be created (This could take a minute or two.)
5. Then the "Confirm New Restore Point" window will appear showing the date and name of your brand new restore point. Click OK.
Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.
You may have already taken some of these steps: 1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.
Windows Update:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
2. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.
6. Install spyware detection and removal programs:
You may also want to consider installing either or both of AdAware (free version) and Spybot S&D (freeware). Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.
I would check for updates in SpyBot once a week or so.
Check for updates in Ad-aware frequently.
If you have recently installed ewido, it is a free trial product for 14 days. After that you can purchase it for full features OR you can also keep the free version to use as an on-demand scanner (recommended).
You will still be able to manually update Ewido using the *update* button
7. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the
Rogue/Suspect Spyware List.
Here is the link:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm If you want to know just how effective your anti-spyware program is, or how well any of the "rogue" programs listed at the above link work, check this for an independent comparison of several anti-spyware programs:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm
8. If you have not already done so, you might want to install
CCleaner and run it in each user's profile:
http://www.ccleaner.com/ ** UNcheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbr.

Reboot into Safemode again and please launch HijackThis.
Place a checkmark next to these items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com

The following are optional to fix because they use resources at Startup and may be unnecessary depending on your needs:
Run Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
You may have already taken some of these steps:
1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.
Windows Update: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
3. Download and install the following free programs:
a. SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Tutorial here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html
b. SpywareGuard:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html
Tutorial here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial50.html
Periodically check for updates in both programs.
4. Keep your antivirus software and firewall software up to date.
Note: Zone Alarm Firewall (Zone Labs) http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp
Sunbelt Kerio has a free version: http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html
5. You might consider installing Mozilla / Firefox.
http://www.mozilla.org/
6. Install spyware detection and removal programs:
You may also want to consider installing either or both of AdAware (free version) and Spybot S&D (freeware). Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.
a. Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
b. SpyBot S&D: http://safer-networking.org/en/news/2005-05-31.html
7. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the Rogue/Suspect Spyware List.
Here is the link:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
If you want to know just how effective your anti-spyware program is, or how well any of the "rogue" programs listed at the above link work, check this for an independent comparison of several anti-spyware programs: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm
8. If you have not already done so, you might want to install CCleaner and run it in each user's profile: http://www.ccleaner.com/
** UNcheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbr.
9. If you use Adobe Reader it may need to be updated to be sure that you have a more secure version. If you are using a version prior to v. 6.05, you should update to 6.05, preferably version 7.07. It would be best to update sequentially.
Info here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows
If you need additional assistance, the Adobe forums are here: http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html
10. Here are so me helpful articles:
