I have went in and made my home page what I want it to be but it just keeps going back to this

http://%6E%6B%76%64%2E%75%73      pls help!!!! I can't search the web because every time I do it get that link before whatever im typing in.

That "obfuscated" string translates to "nkvd.us", and is a known symptom of a browser hijacker.

Download, install, update and run Ad-Aware and Spybot as described in the second link listed below. If you continue to experience problems, the next step is to download HijackThis, install it as described in the second link below, and submit a log in a reply to this message for review.

Is this all on the same file Spybot S&D and Adaware? I have SpyBot but do I need to get Ad-Awear also? Seeing as I have tryed to get it already it will not download tells me download in progress and nothing happens.

Sorry to be so tardy, but it has been a big logjam of people in need and I work my way back chronologically from the oldest first...sometimes I do make an exception since I am a volunteer and nobody is my boss here. *;-)  Also...Chris and I are not the Holy Grail of Knowledge and the links from Navian were useful in case I never got around to you. Nobody is indispensable as I always say.

First...Warning! Unsafe Hijackthis folder! Please create a new folder named HJT in the first level of the C: drive. Copy or move the hijackthis executable file into the HJT folder and delete all other zip copies and extracted copies elsewhere.

Next...You have a bad CoolWebsearch infection and a lot of other infections.

Get CW Shredder to repair your CoolWebSearch infestations:

Follow the directions for running the program at the next link.

(Note...we have noticed recently some CWS variants are harder to remove unless the shredder is run in Safe Mode...hit F8 while booting to enter Safe Mode and run the shredder.) Make sure you FIX any items it finds!

After cleaning with the shredder in Safe Mode do this:

Reboot in normal mode Windows and download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware). Use Spybot first. (1.3 version)

Go slow on the instructions to set up the custom scan options for Adaware. These settings will be retained for future custom scans so don't go nuts thinking you have to do this every time you run it!

Reboot if asked by either program and let it complete any cleanup. Then reboot a final time after running both and run Windows Disk Cleanup: Start/Run/ type: cleanmgr

I check all the categories at the end of the scan and click OK.

Now after doing all this I hate to tell you but the HomeOldSP entry indicates the shredder probably won't get it all. It will rear its ugly head again and you will be miserable. So on to the next step:

Follow all the instructions there exactly. When you find out the evil .dll file from the instructions on that webpage, reboot to Safe Mode, enable hidden files and delete it:

For some reason or another like i have said many times it tells me (download in progress) and nothing happens.
