How to remove unwanted program?

I have Windows Vista. It happend (yesterday) when I was browsing on internet. Suddently, a certain program called "Internet Antivirus Pro" started scenning my drives. I tried to stop it but not able to do it. I get out browsing on internet and restarted the computer. This program was there. I have located it and removed it but it was there in the folder called "Internet Antivirus Pro". I tied to remove it but get a message "I have no authority to remove it".

This morning it is not seen in the folder but I am getting a dialog box "IAPro.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".  I can't close the program. It keep coming again and again.

How do I get rid off this program? How do I get into Safe Mode in Windows Vista?

I have Rogers Antivirus program installed which is doing a good job.

Please help me.

It appears that Rogers Antivirus may not be doing the "good job" that you think it is.

Try running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Please download to your desktop Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates,
  • manually download them from here
and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer,
copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes'
Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan"; then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checkedPhotobucket
    Click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • If you are still having problems and/or would like a follow-up check to be sure the infection as well as vulnerabilities are gone, copy and paste the entire report into a New Message on the Malware Removal forum. Also include a fresh HijackThis log. Instructions for downloading HijackThis are at the top of that forum.

    To do that:

    1. Just click the "Post A Message" button (upper right) in the Malware Removal forum HERE
to start your own thread requesting assistance for a follow-up check to be sure the malware is gone.

    2. In the discussion window that opens, simply Right-Click and select Paste.

    Extra Notes:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

    * If you are unable to download or install MBAM on your computer, see if you can use a friend's or family member's computer to download MBAM. Use this update link here to manually download the update. Once downloaded, rename the program installer "mbam-setup.exe" file to something else like "catchjunk.exe". Copy the installer file and the update file to your CD or flash drive. Transfer the file to the infected computer. Install the "catchjunk.exe" file, then run the update so that you will have the current definitions. After that, run a full system scan and select to have the program REMOVE whatever it finds.

-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes.

**If you need to re-install MBAM but encounter issue in re-installing, try using the MBAM Cleanup Utility by downloading it from http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe

You're welcome. I have replied to your post on the other forum.

I was not able to follow up your instructions regarding 'Hijack This Log" instructions.

If you are for some reason unable to run HijackThis please download DDS and save it to your desktop.

  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Information on A/V control HERE.

Please include the contents of the following logs by copying and pasting the text of each into your next reply on the Malware Removal Forum:

Thank You  Very Much.  I have followed your directives and successfully installed "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" program and run the scan. My computer is clean now. Please check the Log File I have posted for you in "Post A Message" in Malware Removal Forum. However, I was not able to follow up your instructions regarding 'Hijack This Log" instructions.

"It appears that Rogers Antivirus may not be doing the "good job" that you think it is."

As I recall, Kanti is from my province, Ontario. I presume the "Rogers Antivirus" referred to is one of the free security suites offered by my ISP, Rogers.

Recently Rogers switched from a customized Norton to  Rogers Online Protection, a customized full security suite from Radialpoint.

My bias against trusting one's security to one's ISP (particularly if using a product from such an obscure source, with no support forum) is reinforced by posts like this. Also my bias agianst suites. (sorry, Kanti- just my 2 cents;  if I'm wrong here, my apologies)

Hi joe53,

You are right. I am from Ontrio and currently using Rogers Online Protection.  Recently, they have moved away from Norton to Radialpoint as you have mentioned.  Norton was better as this is my first time problem since I have accepted their new Rogers Online Protection, which is good for nothing. Do you have any particular program to suggest to me? I don't want to get into trouble like "Internet Anti virus Pro" (IAPro.exe) again.

Thank You,

Kanti

Hi Kanti:

My recommendations for free (and paid) security programs are here:
http://naut.homestead.com/files/Free/free1.html

Alwil's avast! and Avira's AntiVir are excellent free AVs I have used and recommend.

If money is not an issue, then ESET's NOD32 or Avira's paid version I have also used, and can recommend.

joe53,

Thank you. I appreciate your recommendations. First, I am going to talk to Rogers Tech Support people and want to ask them why their program was not able to stop Internet Anti Virus Pro (IAPro.exe).  I will come back here and post their response.
