I need help with Spyware Removal

Hi Keith:

You've got several hijackers causing your problems(Huntbar and Netster).

Let's kill them with Spybot and Adaware and see what a fresh log looks like afterward. When you run a fresh log relocate your hijackthis file to a safer folder for backups:

(for Hijackthis logs...please copy to and run Hijackthis.exe into a new folder you create in the root level of the C: drive. Name this folder HJT for best and safest results). See this link for graphical instruction: http://russelltexas.com/spywareinfo/createhjtfolder.htm

Download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware). Use Spybot first. Follow the directions completely at:

Reboot if asked by either program and let it complete any cleanup. Then reboot a final time after running both and run Disk Cleanup: Start/Run/ type: cleanmgr    I select all the junk to be deleted here.

Then reboot and in a new C:\HJT folder run hijackthis and post a new log here.

Looking better...Huntbar has been whacked. You still have an entry for Netster. I must remind you again to relocate your hijackthis file to a safe folder....the one you are using is not acceptable in our training for safe backups.

After changing the Hijackthis folder to C:\HJT run it with all other windows closed:

The 016 above is Netster ActiveX hijacker:  check the box to the left for removal.

Click on the 'Fix checked' button.

The 016 entry is a malicious ActiveX script and if you visit the URL again without browser protection it will reinstall. Repost a new log as a reply to this message (stay in this same posting thread for our continuity in responding) and Chris will check your progress tomorrow and make final suggestions, and see if I missed anything (I'm new at Hijackthis, but getting better fast). I'm about done for tonight.

I'm working on my own generic "you're all clear message so how do I stay clean for the future" posting. When I get my macro right I'll repost in this thread. Chris has some good programs he recommends and I use them religiously also. Best part...most are free for home use or donationware.

Heres my all clear - while Texruss works on his.
Re your boot time problem, you will need to work out which programs you have starting at boot time, that you wish to have running that way. They are the 04's in the log.
This site http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php gives details of each one - it is very heavely used and is a problem to connect to at times. If you use that and ask in the windows XP board for advice, they will help you decide what you can do without.

Look at the info on my website regarding malware (Link below). Some things you can do to stop getting infected again:-

Spybot s&d, Ad-aware Run weekly - or after a heavy internet session.

Spywareblaster & Spywareguard, first sets kill bits to stop known bad activeX controls installing, second acts like your AV to stop browser hijacks and installing of known badies.

Also ie-spyad (Link on my site), puts 4000 bad sites in your restricted (banned) sites list, to stop you accidentaly getting sent to a bad site, it has optional list of "bad" adult sites to install as well.

All those with links from my site. Do remember just like Anti-Virus they need to be updated regularly, I do mine weekly, Anti-Virus hourly.

With these and a firewall in place I have to try various bad sites when checking peoples hijackthis logs looking to sort bad from good, and I have not yet been infected. Still time for it to happen LOL.

Lots of possibilities...try a post in the Windows software forum and see if you get a response. Post your model, CPU speed, RAM installed, hard drive speed, and hard drive size and space used. Also information on whether it is a standalone system or on a network (home peer-to-peer or otherwise).
