I need help with VIRUS !!!
Hi
I have a severe virus problem with my INSPIRON E1705. The first thing I noticed was I lost all my ICONS on my start up page. I also lost my clock and there is a message that say's...VIRUS ALERT !. I tried to use my system restore and the restore points are gone. It will not let me go back on a previous month. I tried to download a virus removal tool that a friend who had downloaded on a disk and the drive would not work. I get a message that reads...."Your system administrator disabled the display control panel.
I can log on the internet but just get re-routed to stupid web-sites offering bogus spam ware. I'm running windows XP.I cannot try widows update it has been removed
I'm sorry if I'm very vague on the information.....Very new to computer's.
Thank You in advance for any HELP....BK

Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

Hi,
Downloading antivirus softwares when your pc is already infected with virus. you may need to check on tools to manualy remove viruses on the comptuter. last option is to do the pc restore or perform an operatign system reisntallation but that will delete data saved on teh computer.
after all the viruses are removed, it is then that you can install and reconfigure your antivirus software.

Hi Bugbatter.....Thank You for your HELP!!!!
I tried my computer in safe mode and it acted the same way. I still cannot open my disk with the manware download. I wouldnt mind if I had to re-boot my computer if that is the only way to still be able to use my computer.

That is actually the easiest way of doing it - pc restore.
If your pc is running on Windows XP, restart pc and keep on tapping CTRL + F11 (hold CTRL and keep on tapping F11).
For windows vista, restart pc and keep on tapping F8. Then choose repair computer options. Login in using your user name and choose DELL factory image restore.
Please take note that doing pc restore will delete all your data and will restore your computer to its original factory image.
But before you do pc restore, you might want to try running malwarebytes. you can download it at malwarebytes.com. it a free malware removal tools.

Thank You for your reply....I tried to download that program from malware and the virus keeps sending me to different adds. I tried to download the program on a cd from another computer and run it thru my drive but that has also been disabled.....I really dont want to re-boot the whole system but I'm not sure what else I can do.
Thanks again

Buddy,
if you are really concerned about losing your files, there is a way to manually remove those viruses on your computer but htis includes advance troubleshooting and manual malware removal. this also involves usage of combination of tools. i can share you how to do it but it is very risky and involves further research. mistakes in doing these steps could damage your OS. but if you''l gonna master this, you do not have to worry about viruses anymore.
another option is you may want to check with DELL on Call. It is a fee based advanced software form DELL. It this is not an option for you, then the easiers and fastest way to to do pc restore but you need to back up data first.
