Hi Ged:

iexplore.exe is the legitimate executable for Internet Explorer, and should be located in your C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder. Do a search on it, and report if you find it located anywhere else, in which case you probably have a trojan. Also check msconfig- it should not generally be located there. If you are receiving error messages, quote the exact text here.

Hi Joe

My search found this IEXPLORE.EXE-2D97EBE6.pf   c:\windows\prefetch

It keeps being modified every time I log on

Ged:

I wouldn't worry about that prefetch file IEXPLORE.EXE-2D97EBE6.pf - this is normal behaviour. What app (if any) indicates you have a problem or virus?

A good "quick fix" to help rule out malware on your system is here:

http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

It is worth going through that list- if nothing is found, then the last suggestion to download/run HighjackThis, and post a logfile over in the HJT forum is warranted.
