Then I went into the registery and into local machine and current user and remove symantec. I also turned off the firewalls I went back into c drive under program files and made sure there was nothing there I wonder if anyone out there could shed some light on this problem. Thanking you in advance

Personally, not knowing what you did in the registry, and what files were removed on your C:\ disc it is impossible to say what is wrong.
What bothers me is the registry edit.
You didn't say you used the control panel Add/Remove folder first?
oh I forgot to mention when installing the software it stops installing when is starts copying tdi drivers and says error installation failed. Doesn't say why just says error. I am using my 2400 now sending this, my 8200 is the one that is giving me the problem . I haven't put the software on this one yet I hope to if I can find out where the problem is
I went into the registry and into local machine then into software and scrolled down to symantec and removed it I did the same thing going into current user. The reason why I didn't go the add and remove route, I used norton removal tool supposing to rid all of norton . Thats what Symantec says to use..to uninstall Norton system works 2006. I also went into c drive to make sure there were no symantic files there. Starting the installation it scans the compuer and accepts the findings and starts to intstall until it gets about half way thru and it says error not explaining what the error is ,just says error installation stops reboot and try again. I have 2 wire for my dsl and I checked to make sure firewall was inactive .I went into control panel and on windows security center and checked in there to make sure windows firewall was off, I can't think of anything else to do I know you mention about me going into the registry, but I was very careful as to what I was doing. I know in the past I had to do that when I was reinstalling Norton some years ago it seems symantic always hangs in there after you uninstall norton. Thank you for the quick come back I can't think of anything else to tell you that might help..oh by the way have a great new years...
I installed PC-cillin 2007 after a long run with McAfee...and it installed correctly. Here's what I did and I will relate it to you...it may help. Run REGEDIT. In the search bar, first type Symantec and delete EVERY instance it shows up. Then close all the open trees and start from the top again. This time...type NORTON Do as you did with Symantec (this is going to take a long time, so be patient)....btw...I did this when I first installed Mcafee a few years ago...
OK...Now...one more time. To make sure...type NORTON ANTIVIRUS....go through and delete all again.
Now...reboot...
After you reboot...go to Program files/Norton systemworks and delete the entire folder. Then go to Program Files/Common/Symantec Shared and delete it. OK...almost there...reboot again...
