I followed the directions and deleted the 2 lines that both ended with abr.dll .

When I rebooted, the same lines were there, except that abr.dll was replaced with vganet.dll .

I thought I was home free !

I will go thru the procedure again and repost the log file.

Hi Ron, Yes, I think I followed the directions as closely as possible. I ran KillVundo.bat .    The 1st time it ran as expected.    The 2nd time it asked me to replace strings.exe .  Not knowing if I should, I said NO. It finished and HiJackThis opened, just like the 1st time. I didn't find the exact items that were in the instructions.  I DID find the exact items that you entered in your message - ending with abr.dll.  So I deleted them both the 1st time.  When I rebooted, abr.dll had changed to vganet.dll . The 2nd time I did the same thing and ended up with the same items ending in vganet.dll again. I didn't get the 'Blue Screen of Death' either time, but both times my system was locked and I needed to shut down to reboot.  Both times it booted to Windows and looked normal. Too bad.  That's the easiest way I know of to get rid of it.  I have no idea what the strings.exe file is.  Do not have such a file on my PC so it is probably malware.  I'd go ahead and let it delete it.    Do you have an XP CD?  We can try the recovery console method.   Or we can try creating a series of boot disks.   Let me know which you want to try.   Ron

They are in:   C:\VundoFix   C:\VundoFix\strings.zip   C:\Windows\Prefetch   I ran the procedure for the 3rd time, and chose to replace strings.exe . I also found press any key at the end.  It was hidden below the window.  I had to scroll down. So, this time I went to the blue screen. Then I rebooted.   This time the log file is different !! Make sure you have System Restore running (toggle it off and On today to get rid of any bad stuff it may have retained) and then you can just go back to an earlier time if you hit a bad site. One way to make this more obvious is to check everything in your current HijackThis and Add to Ignore List then set up Hijackthis to run at boot and to show you if it finds anything new.

Thanks for all the help. I can't imagine that anyone can figure all this out for themselves !!

I will go thru all the suggestions you made and do my best to protect my computer.

I already have McAfee's full service: VirusScan, Personal Firewall Plus, Privacy Service and SpamKiller. It's always active. I also have Ad-Aware. I keep these programs updated and run VirusScan and Ad-Aware AT LEAST once a week.
