Macafee security Center program installed on Laptop

It seems on my new Inspiron 1545, I have Macafee Security Center with 15 months of support/updates.  Now, on my desktop, I run AVG Free edition, Spyware Blaster and Super Anti Spyware.  I also have Zone Alarm as a firewall.

Questions:

1.  Is what I have on my desktop adequate?  Seems to cover the gammut.  Let me know please.

2.  Will the laptop software I have be adequate for now or should I do something else?  Kust curious what the program does as I have never used it.

Thanks!

Someone must have an opinion.  I'll just wait...  :emotion-1:

Thanks.  So, does it provide a firewall or does that come from Windows?  It is adequate to keep me protected and I need nothing else in your opinion?

As for my desktop with the other software titles mentioned, what do you think of that?

McAfee Security Centre, has firewall, antivirus, spyware protection, quickclean & shredder.

It has parental controls and spam protection for emails however I never bothered with the latter part.

Open McAfee Secuirty center and go to protection and status on the list on the left. Then to internet and network, then click configure on the bottom right. Then click advanced beside firewall protection and change the setting from Trusting to Standard.

Open McAfee Secuirty center and go to maintain computer on the list on the left. Then to quickclean and you have the option to maintain some things on your computer and to shredd the files. It is good to do this once in a little while.

Is there any way to schedule any of the scans?  I see nothing to set up an automatic scan for viruses, spyware or anything.  Thoughts?

Ringfinder:

To schedule when and the time McAfee does a scan do the following:

Open the McAfee Security Center.

Click the arrow to the right of – Computer & Files.

Click on Configure in the bottom of the window that opened. Do not click the Configure at the bottom of Security Center Page.

At the top of the window that opens you will see – Virus Protection Is Enabled. Click on Advanced in this window.

Look on the left side of the window that opens, you will see Schedule Scan listed as one of the options. Click on Schedule Scan. Select the day of week and time you want McAfee to perform a scan. Click on Apply. Click Ok. Click on the X located at the top right of McAfee Security Center.

Having multiple or duplicate virus/spyware/firewall programs on a system have caused problems in the past. This is your call.

It usually does automatically on friday mornings.

make sure you have select advanced menu (bottom left) > then select computer and files (on the right) > advanced under virus protection (menu on left) select scheduled scan. It gives you the options to change it there.

Ringfinger,

1) You can add Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware as an extra On-Demand scanner.

Link from Bugbatter's Virus/Spyware FAO's:

Red Dawn already provided a  link to joe53's primer. Thanks Red Dawn.

2) You can also add KeyScrambler, this is an Anti-Keloggers, and there is a free version.
