becho:

I have used Counterspy for some time, with both my old Win98SE and now my XP PC's. I am so
satisfied with it, I have had no desire to try the MS program (both are based on the same program).

I can't imagine what benefit you would obtain by getting the MS product, if you already have Counterspy.
They use pretty much the same signatures for detection. If you were to get the MS version, you are
advised to disable Counterspy to avoid potential conflicts.

I'm not slamming the MS version- I haven't tried it. Possibly it is as good as Counterspy. But it is a beta
product, whereas Counterspy comes with full vendor support.

SpywareBlaster is highly recommended by just about everyone using IE. It doesn't interfere with any other anti-spyware
programs, it is free, and I can't think of any reason not to have it in one's arsenal. It does block tracking cookies in
Firefox.

The best protection always requires several layers of defense. The more, the better. That said, one has to distinguish
between standalone scanners (Spybot, Adaware, Stinger, et.al), and realtime programs always running in the background.

Good general advice is to have only one anti-spyware program resident (running in the background) at any one time, to avoid
conflicts. Such resident programs would include Counterspy, Spysweeper, Microsoft's anti-spy, and others. Pick your
favorite, and just use the one.

Microsoft Antispyware looks like working OK but fails to remove Aurora, like all other antispy software.
I suggest you Lavasoft Ad-Aware with the Add-in Vx2.
For this, please refer to the following thread, which did help me a lot (thanks to ky331)
