Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool-December 2009
I downloaded this manually shortly after Microsoft released it to the public and it appears to have installed properly. However, when I started the scan, it stopped after about 50 seconds at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\desktop.ini. It hung there for a few seconds and then my computer froze. I had to power off and restart.
This has not happened with previous months' releases of the Malicious Software Removal Tool. I ran Microsoft's online cleaner tool which ran for about 7 hours and found no viruses or spyware.
Has anyone had this problem? Any advice?
Thanks

What AV and/or security suite do you use?
Try running MSRT with your real-time AV and any real-time anti-malware/anti-spyware programs temporarily disabled.

Earlier today when I downloaded the collection of weekly updates on my Vista computer, MSRT did not install. Tried it again just now and it installed normally. I have had trouble with Vista updates before and posted about them, but up to now this one has given no trouble.
