Vandread,

There's an increasing backlog of people needing help, as explained in this post by Texruss.

Not what you wanted to hear, I realize.

First...a comment about Messenger Plus! (I hope you didn't say I accept during the install). If you did, uninstall and in my opinion leave it uninstalled. Otherwise redo and don't check that sponsor box.

Run Hijackthis, scan and check:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InfoAxis] C:\PROGRA~1\ELSEIN~1\Bib Lies.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = ?

With no other windows open click on fix checked button in Hijackthis.

Reboot to SAFE MODE and Show HIDDEN FILES and folders

FAQ 8 and 9 on this page:  http://www.russelltexas.com/spywareinfo/faqhijackthis.htm

Open Windows Explorer: type the word explorer at Start/Run box and click OK:

Drill on down and delete the following files and/or folders:

C:\Program Files\ELSEIN... will be longer foldername
C:\Documents and Settings\Brian\Local Settings\Temp\    all files in Temp...leave foldename intact

Exit Explorer.

Reboot in normal mode Windows.

Download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware). Use Spybot first.

Chris has posted an excellent tutorial by dgosling on how to run Spybot S&D and also how to enable customized deep scanning functions for Adaware. Once you set these options they will be retained for future scans by Adaware.

Follow the directions in this detailed guide for Spybot and Adaware...go slow on the directions for the custom setup of Adaware:

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

After cleaning with Spybot and Adaware, reboot a final time and Run Disk Cleaner: type cleanmgr at Start/Run. Scan all hard drives and check all categories at the end and click OK.

Browse a bit and post a new Hijackthis log.

All the best,

If you mean the line entry for Microsoft Works (which is a dead useless entry) then yes it probably did come with your Dell.

But if you mean Messenger Plus!, I have never seen a Dell come pre-installed with this third party app (it is not affiliated with Microsoft). Messenger yes...but not Messenger Plus!
See:  http://www.msgplus.net/help_faq.php?expand=1#offadd
(I like the words "Microsoft "tolerates" them... but as for the statement: "the most popular and respected add-on:...hmmm....kinda self-aggrandisement.

I also pay attention to reviews from dissatisfied users:

""Not worth it, stay well clear off"
I downloaded this after a friend recommeneded it. It looked like a good programme until I installed it. Once installed it'll add a search bar to Internet Explorer and reset your homepage and many other things as well. Its littered with adware and spayware. If you have the misfortune to have this installed on your PC then download Ad-Aware 6 and HijackThis 1.97 to sort out the mess Messenger Plus will make"
