moviepass.tv
I found that all the free spyware downloads allow you to scan the program but not delete it.
When the pop up comes up just hit ctrl/alt/delete and highlite the movie pass program and hit end task. This makes the annoying popup and music go away! Try it.

Moviepass.tv has become an issue lately, please note the following by Amateur
The way Moviepass appears to operate is by installing itself on your computer and creating an account. If you're getting a pop-up message then it's safe to say that you do have an account, even if you weren't aware of it.
First, you MUST cancel that account before you remove the software from your PC. When you call them to cancel, they will ask you for a number from your software. If you have removed the software, they will not cancel your account.
This is important because when you installed the software (intentionally or not) you agreed to their terms of use. Possible that you can be hit with a $300 tab and a collection agency if you do not properly cancel.
If you phone Moviepass make a note of the date, time, the name of the person you spoke to and details of the conversation. If your phone has a record facility then record the conversation, ensure you advise Moviepass that the call is being recorded. Keep copies of all correspondence including e-mails. Save copies of webpages you visit on the Moviepass website (click File on the menu at the top of your browser window then click Save As).
Movieland and Moviepass are inextricably linked. The contact details specifically for Movieland are by e-mail to support@movieland.com, by phone on US number: 866 431-7724 or by writing to Integrated Enterprises Inc, 19360 Rinaldi Street #148, Porter Ranch, CA 91326, United States.
Moviepass customer support no is 866 431-7720 (it's a US number)
The Moviepass Terms of Service state "You can cancel your MoviePass™ Membership at any time by going through the Customer Service page located at www.members.moviepass.tv/customerservice". If you do not want the MoviePass service and you do not completely remove this stuff it could be a high security risk, as you also agreed to let MoviePass use your hard drive and your bandwidth for their purposes.
Please call, cancel, and remove NOW!
Phone Moviepass customer support at 866 431-7720 and quote your customer ID number which , I understand, you'll find on the pop-up window.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After you have done this, then
Go here and download Hijackthis
http://dsvs.org/5/HijackThis.exe
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\\HJT\\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents AT THE LINK BELOW
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack
and include a description of the problem along with your log
Please do not be tempted to "fix" on your own. Hijackthis is a very powerful tool, if used incorrectly can cause system problems

Good post Jim!
the only point i would add... while it's probably safe [and apparently even required] to call and give them your "your customer ID number" --- which should be displayed in their annoying popup ad --- under no circumstances should you give them any other "sensitive" information... such as credit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security number, &etc.
Personally, i don't know that i'd even trust them with my name, address nor phone #. Don't let them "trick" you into revealing anything that they might be able to take advantage of in the future.
The "customer ID number" should give them all the information they need access to, to cancel "your" account.

Joanne,
the point being "debated" here is not whether Ad-Aware [or Spybot, or HiJackThis, or any other anti-spyware program] is capable of "removing" the MoviePass.tv software and stopping their annoying popups. Ad-Aware may in fact be capable of doing so. [Ad-Aware is a wonderful program. I use it regularly. And heartily recommend it].
Rather, the point is that the MoviePass people will try to claim that, upon downloading their software [even if done without your knowledge/consent], you've (somehow) entered into a "contract" with them... for which they contend you're still "legally" responsible. It's kinda (but not exactly) like if you signed a two-year cell phone contract, decided you weren't happy with the phone, and decided to toss the physical phone into the garbage pail.... yes, you can do that, and get rid of their annoying ring tones... but you'd still be responsible to continue paying the monthly bills, even after you got rid of the phone.
the difference, of course, is that people with cell phone contracts presumably really signed them... whereas moviepass is trying to claim that people have an "electronic" contract [via their deceptive download]... and this may wind-up being a matter of technical/legal debate for the courts. so even if it's bogus, would you really want to waste time/expense taking them to court to get a ruling in your favor??
so all we were trying to say here is, be extra careful with moviePass if you find it on your PC.... go through their formality of canceling things first [and document every step of your communications with them] before you simply remove/disable the program.

Okay, here's what happened to me with MoviePass. Like everybody else here I couldn't figure out how it got on my computer. I wasn't even home when it supposedly was installed and my boyfriend swore to me that he never did it -- he was with me when it was supposedly installed so I believed him.
Then I found out that the time of the install can be off -- due to a difference in time between Moviepass server location and my PC location or due to my PC having the wrong time on it (which it did). So that's how I found out that the ONLY way to get pop-ups is to visit websites (this is because of obscenity laws and stuff so they can't just pop those ads on anybody it has to be somebody who has for sure visited a site).
Anyway -- back to MoviePass -- it turns out that it can be used to download reallyl big media files like TV shows and movies. But guess what else? Yep, if you wanted to you could download. And that's what my boyfriend did. And then he lied to me. So I totally thought it was this virus on my computer. But it's not. And I found all this out from my friend who works at the attorney general's office and then he told me to install a key-stroke logger. Which I did. And I found out about all sorts of awful things about my now EX-BOYFRIEND.
So the message here is, okay so the MoviePass reminders are annoying. BUT REALLY, if you don't know how this got on your computer, somebody in your house is lying to you big time. Or maybe somebody who just passed through your house like a babysitter. But MoviePass is a real program (which is why all those ad-blocker anti-spyware things don't work). And even it its annoying -- it's a nice notice that somebody in your house is up to something they shouldn't be. And also, now that I've really looked at it -- you need to read the terms and conditions before you download people. It says right on the ad in a really short statement that if you don't cancel in three days you will start getting electronic payment reminders. I guess people get so excited by the picutre of the hot girl that they don't even bother to read about 25 words that TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN. Or they are being lied to like I was.
Good luck!

I have a problem. I never even downloaded the software in the first place. So how can I delete it, and make them stop? I have searched my computer, even the hidden files and nothing has turned up. All I have been able to find are internet links and shortcuts, and a buch of text documents. I have NONE of the components needed for me to even use the software, which is funny because without that software, you cannot even get their contact info. When I accidentally clicked on the link that got this mess started in the first place, they wanted too much sensitive information, so I got out of there fast, but not without first picking up a couple of viruses. I appreciate the contact info, so I may give them a hostile phone call before contacting the BBB, FTC, or any other applicable authority.
Let me know if you can help!

If this is spy/malware how are they going to identify you to send you a bill once you have removed it from your computer? They don't deserve a call, unless you do it to run a "bait" wasting their time for amusment. Really, why call? Did you give them your name, address, or email address? If they have it then they obviously have some true trojan sending bits of info from your system to theirs and in that case I would just sue their asses off.
Seriously though, why give them the call? They know your "customer id number" and nothing else, they won't be able to find you, and if they do I would love to see what they provide the courts to confirm your identity if they try to collect.
Why is the "opposite of heaven" word filtered on Dell forums? That is a swear filter gone to far :P
