I am reviewing your log. It appears that you have Wordwrap checked. Please open Notepad > File menu > configure with Wordwrap UNchecked.
Your version of HijackThis is outdated and does not support Vista. Please see the announcements at the top of this board for downloading HJT V. 2.02.
Your version of Vundofix is probably outdated as well. Please delete that and its logs. If we need it, we will download an updated version.
* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.
* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state.
* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?
* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.
* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.
Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.
** We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case.
Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

ok thanks for replying. i have changed notepad to not have word wrap activated as you said. i also got Hijack This v2.02 aswell.
i'm not telling you how to do what you do, but would you like me to remove my outdated version of Java? because there is still more of the *random name*.dll files coming in. i know you said not to remove any programs or anything, so this is why i am asking. when i got my PC, it came with java v1.5 and i didn't realise this, which must've cause this problem.
i also have process explorer running on startup for when/if i need it

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not

i have one question before i use VundoFix, do you want me to remove the files from McAfees quarantine? otherwise they may not be detected, like when i tried last time...
[EDIT] just scanned with the files still in quarantine, so do you want me to take them out of quarantine and scan VundoFix again??
I expected that from VundoFix, but we had to run it initially. You still have some infection in there.
Please launch HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following:

Close all windows except Hijackthis, and click "Fix Checked. Close Hijackthis.
We are going to run Vundofix again, but change the instructions slightly.
Double Click VundoFix.exe to run the program
In the white open window Right Click and Select "Add more files?"
An Explorer window will open. Locate the files in listed below and Select "Open"
If there is more than one file listed, repeat the process until all the files listed are added.
If you are unable to find one of the files listed, manually type in the complete path and file name and Select "Open"
Right click in the open window and Select "Select all" (or manualy add check marks) in the boxes preceeeding the file names.
With the boxes all checked Select "Fix Vundo" Do Not Select "Scan for Vundo"
You will receive a prompt asking "Are you sure you want to remove these files?", click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

i deleted the files while in McAfee's quarantine as you said and then i scanner with Vundo fix to get this:
which means that there was no log produced.
if this means that the viruses are gone, then that means i should probably be getting those annoying messages on startup then...
i read in CCleaner in the Registry section that i could fix the problem with the run function of the files. but of course i won't do anything except for what you tell me.
i just checked now and i can open "computer, control panel, recycle bin" and all those other explorer functions!!

theres one slight problem with your next instruction for VundoFix. before when you said, delete the files from quarantine, did you mean to: 1. restore the files so they are still on the computer, but not in McAfee's or 2. remove the files so they are gone from both quarantine AND the computer ?? because i did no. 2 meaning i cannot select the files in VundoFix... but i did complete the HiJack This instruction, here is the log:

Were these quarantined as well?

Because the Registry entries were still showing, I wanted to make sure none of them reinstalled. If they are gone, VundoFix will not find them. I do not see them in your most recent HijackThis log. How is everything running? If all is well, you do not need to run VundoFix again.

Yes, all the 15 or so files were quarantined in McAfee. i only named:
mlljj.dll opnoo.dll sstro.dll TMP0000D892 TMP0000DAE3 because i guess i just couldn't be bothered writing all the files out. sorry if i confused you because of this.
everything seems to be running really well :smileyhappy: , i don't get those messages on startup because of what you said to do with HiJack This, so thanks.
i think that everything is all fixed, but that is really up to you to decide.
i'll post another HiJack This log below, just to get you to check that everything is all good.

Yes, you did confuse me. You mentioned those few files, so I thought we still had to take care of the others.
Please launch a scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to this one:

Close all other windows and click "Fix Checked".
Close Hijackthis.
You can remove VundoFix. If you ever need it again , there will be a newer version.
Run DiskCleanup in each user profile.
1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, choose whether you want to clean up your own files only or all of the files on the computer. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. If the Disk Cleanup: Drive Selection dialog box appears, select the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK.
4. Click the Disk Cleanup tab.
* Please make sure only the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
5. When you finish selecting the files you want to delete, click OK, and then click Delete files to confirm the operation. Disk Cleanup proceeds to remove all unnecessary files from your computer.
If everything is running well, it would be good to flush System Restore so you can start fresh. We'll purge the old, infected Restore Points by turning System off and on again.
To turn off Windows Vista System Restore:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on
7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
8. Click OK
9. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.
To turn on Windows Vista System Restore:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Place a checkmark in the box for any drive you wish to enable System Restore on
7. Click OK
That will have you in good shape.:)
Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.
You may have already taken some of these steps, and depending on your current security, you may not need to implement all of these:
1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

4. Do not use file sharing. Even the safest P2P file sharing programs that do not contain bundled spyware, still expose you to risks because of the very nature of the P2P file sharing process. By default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. The reason for this is simple. File sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. However, this practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft. Even if you change those risky default settings to a safer configuration, the act of downloading files from an anonymous source greatly increases your exposure to infection. That is because the files you are downloading may actually contain a disguised threat. Many very malicious worms and trojans, such as the Storm Worm, target and spread across P2P files sharing networks because of their known
vulnerabilities.
6. If you have not already done so, you might want to install
CCleaner and run it in each user's profile:
http://www.ccleaner.com/ ** UNcheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar that is checked by default for the Standard version, or download the toolbar-free versions (Slim or Basic) when given the option for those.

Make sure you are using the most updated version of Java. The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5
You can go here to download the latest version of
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
Scroll down to where it says "
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5 allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the link to download the
Windows (Offline Installation) package: Save it, do
not run it. When the download is complete, close the browser.
Remove all prior versions using Add/Remove Programs, and delete the Java folder in Program Files.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on
jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Reboot.
8. Practice Safe Surfing with with
TrendProtect by Trendmicro.
TrendProtect is a browser plugin that assigns a safety rating to domains listed in your search engine.
TrendProtect also adds a new button to your browser's toolbar area. The icon and color of the button changes to indicate whether the page currently open is safe, unsafe, trusted, or unrated, or whether it contains unwanted content.
The following color codes are used by TrendProtect to indicate the safety of each site.
Red for Warning Yellow for Use Caution Green for Safe Grey for Unknown
9. You might consider installing SpywareBlaster:

Please download the latest version of
VundoFix.exe to your desktop. If you have an old version, please delete it and its old log here: C:\ vundofix.txt
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not
remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for
Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
** If you get a warning about updating Java, do not do so until I can give you further

thanks for replying so quickly.
i have one question before i use VundoFix, do you want me to remove the files from McAfees quarantine? otherwise they may not be detected, like when i tried last time...
[EDIT] just scanned with the files still in quarantine, so do you want me to take them out of quarantine and scan VundoFix again??

I expected that from VundoFix, but we had to run it initially. You still have some infection in there.
Please launch HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following:

Close all windows except Hijackthis, and click "Fix Checked. Close Hijackthis.
We are going to run Vundofix again, but change the instructions slightly.
- Double Click VundoFix.exe to run the program
- In the white open window Right Click and Select "Add more files?"
- An Explorer window will open. Locate the files in listed below and Select "Open"
- If there is more than one file listed, repeat the process until all the files listed are added.
- If you are unable to find one of the files listed, manually type in the complete path and file name and Select "Open"
- Right click in the open window and Select "Select all" (or manualy add check marks) in the boxes preceeeding the file names.
- With the boxes all checked Select "Fix Vundo" Do Not Select "Scan for Vundo"
- You will receive a prompt asking "Are you sure you want to remove these files?", click YES
- Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
- When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
- Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

i deleted the files while in McAfee's quarantine as you said and then i scanner with Vundo fix to get this:
if this means that the viruses are gone, then that means i should probably be getting those annoying messages on startup then...
i read in CCleaner in the Registry section that i could fix the problem with the run function of the files. but of course i won't do anything except for what you tell me.
i just checked now and i can open "computer, control panel, recycle bin" and all those other explorer functions!!

theres one slight problem with your next instruction for VundoFix. before when you said, delete the files from quarantine, did you mean to:
1. restore the files so they are still on the computer, but not in McAfee's
or
2. remove the files so they are gone from both quarantine AND the computer
??
because i did no. 2 meaning i cannot select the files in VundoFix...

Because the Registry entries were still showing, I wanted to make sure none of them reinstalled. If they are gone, VundoFix will not find them. I do not see them in your most recent HijackThis log. How is everything running? If all is well, you do not need to run VundoFix again.

because i guess i just couldn't be bothered writing all the files out. sorry if i confused you because of this.
everything seems to be running really well :smileyhappy: , i don't get those messages on startup because of what you said to do with HiJack This, so thanks.
i think that everything is all fixed, but that is really up to you to decide.
i'll post another HiJack This log below, just to get you to check that everything is all good.
so what would you like me to do now?
is it time to remove and install the latest Java? and is there anything else, just to finish off?

Please launch a scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to this one:

Close all other windows and click "Fix Checked".
Close Hijackthis.
You can remove VundoFix. If you ever need it again , there will be a newer version.
Run DiskCleanup in each user profile.
1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, choose whether you want to clean up your own files only or all of the files on the computer. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. If the Disk Cleanup: Drive Selection dialog box appears, select the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK.
4. Click the Disk Cleanup tab.

-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
5. When you finish selecting the files you want to delete, click OK, and then click Delete files to confirm the operation. Disk Cleanup proceeds to remove all unnecessary files from your computer.

If everything is running well, it would be good to flush System Restore so you can start fresh. We'll purge the old, infected Restore Points by turning System off and on again.
To turn off Windows Vista System Restore:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on
7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
8. Click OK
9. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.
To turn on Windows Vista System Restore:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Place a checkmark in the box for any drive you wish to enable System Restore on
7. Click OK
That will have you in good shape.:)
Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.
You may have already taken some of these steps, and depending on your current security, you may not need to implement all of these:
1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

2. Please use a firewall and realtime anti-virus. Keep the anti-virus software and firewall software up to date.

3. You might consider installing Mozilla / Firefox.

4. Do not use file sharing. Even the safest P2P file sharing programs that do not contain bundled spyware, still expose you to risks because of the very nature of the P2P file sharing process. By default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. The reason for this is simple. File sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. However, this practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft. Even if you change those risky default settings to a safer configuration, the act of downloading files from an anonymous source greatly increases your exposure to infection. That is because the files you are downloading may actually contain a disguised threat. Many very malicious worms and trojans, such as the Storm Worm, target and spread across P2P files sharing networks because of their known
vulnerabilities.
5. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the following Rogue/Suspect Spyware Lists.

6. If you have not already done so, you might want to install CCleaner and run it in each user's profile: http://www.ccleaner.com/
** UNcheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar that is checked by default for the Standard version, or download the toolbar-free versions (Slim or Basic) when given the option for those.
7. Make sure you are using the most updated version of Java.
The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5
You can go here to download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
Scroll down to where it says " Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5 allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the link to download the Windows (Offline Installation) package: Save it, do not run it. When the download is complete, close the browser.
Remove all prior versions using Add/Remove Programs, and delete the Java folder in Program Files.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Reboot.
8. Practice Safe Surfing with with TrendProtect by Trendmicro.
TrendProtect is a browser plugin that assigns a safety rating to domains listed in your search engine. TrendProtect also adds a new button to your browser's toolbar area. The icon and color of the button changes to indicate whether the page currently open is safe, unsafe, trusted, or unrated, or whether it contains unwanted content.
The following color codes are used by TrendProtect to indicate the safety of each site.
Red for Warning
Yellow for Use Caution
Green for Safe
Grey for Unknown
9. You might consider installing SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
It will:
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
