my computer has been infrected with something

last night i noticed a new program that was added on my program list.

it is called outer info computer is getting real slow, some items on my utilities bar are missing.

my "mcafree" is not accessible.
am also using adaware program to search.

also a box pops up with something saying server is busy, switch to .... and if i click around it ... pop up from outer info come up for some reason,

it took me a while to post. a message came up saying that i had posted a prohibited content contain in my message. it was actually located in Matsu----a Electric Industrial Co. which was burried in my logfile. you can guess the word that fits in there is a four letter word that starts with an s and ends with a t. took me a while to find. it also said i had another inappropraite word.

so i replaced all the "s" with a - that are next to an "a" it just wont let me post unless i have it gone any help would be appreciated. here is my log.

I am reviewing your log.
In the meantime, you can help me by doing the following:

* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.

* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it.
Definition of cracked software:

* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state.

* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?

* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.

* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.
Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.

** We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case.
Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

Your version of HijackThis is outdated. Please remove that version.
Please download HJT Installer for version 2.02 from Here to your desktop.
If not available use this alternate link: Here
  • Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.
  • It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.
  • The program will open automatically after installation.
  • You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.
  • The first time you open HijackThis, check the Main Menu button at the bottom center. When the main menu appears check the box "Show this window when I start HijackThis".
  • Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile."
    When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.
  • DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
  • Before closing HJT, please click on the AnalyzeThis button. "Analyze This" DOES NOT mean "Analyze My Log". You will need to post your log on the forum.
  • Close the web page that appears and then close the program


  • Also open HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.
    Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
    Click the "Save List" button. After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Select a place to save it. The list should open in notepad.
    Copy and paste that list here.

well i cant seem to find the original thread that i was told to come here ... i dont know why... but i just cant find it. i have not posted it on any other forum. do i need to? should i?

i had limewire on my computer. i removed it per the directions.

i downloaded the new version that was liked in the reply

i have never used hijackthis. and i have never tried to resolve this sort of problem on my computer ever.

this is my private computer and i own and operate it.

again i had to remove some of the "a" due to completing to become a "bad word". i also removed the "s" from another "bad word". they were replaced it "-".

i tired to send it out to be analyzed like the instructors said to do so. an error message came up saying something about Microsoft.


i tried to do this:

Also open HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.
Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
Click the "Save List" button. After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Select a place to save it. The list should open in notepad.
Copy and paste that list here.


but when i clicked on save list. HJT closed out and nothing popped up.

You have added a new infection since your first post. Due to the fact that these things multiply as you surf, if at all possible, please do not do any surfing while we are working on this.
Look in your Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs for any of these and uninstall them:

Oin
Yazzle by Oin
Purityscan by Oin
Snowballwars by Oin
or anything similar with Oin or Outerinfo in it.
Zolero
Tizzletalk
MediaTickets
Limewire

Following that, please post a fresh HijackThis log so we can continue.

i am getting hesitation in some programs like

getting to the point that it says it is not responding

should i surf the web?
do you recommend any software to protect me from this happening again? free download wise?

Download and scan each user profile with CCleaner:

** Select to download the SLIM version.

**Because CCleaner removes everything in temp folders, if you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner.


1. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK
" Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
2. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
In the Windows Tab:
• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies (if you want to keep those).
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section.
• Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
• Clean any others that you choose.
In the Applications Tab:
• Clean all except cookies (if you want to keep those) in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.
3. Click the " Run Cleaner" button.
4. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
5. Click " OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
6. Click " exit" when done.
REBOOT.


Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. It is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4 allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each of the Java versions.

  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log for final review. I will reply to that within 24 hrs..
If everything looks okay after that, we will clean up our tools and flush your System Restore.

We are almost finished.

You have Viewpoint installed. Viewpoint developed a behavioral targeting product in 2006. Viewpoint is associated with a program called viewmgr.exe and the ViewPoint Media Player.
Viewpoint is bundled with AOL, AOL Instant Messenger, Adobe Atmosphere, Netscape 7, etc and sometimes not mentioned in the license agreement. Hardware manufacturers pre-install some of these applications.
ViewPoint Toolbar will redirect your search queries and also transmits non personally identifiable information back to their servers. The Viewpoint Toolbar is listed is also classified as a threat in the CounterSpy Threat Library because it hijacks your search queries and also transmits non personally identifiable information back to their servers.
Viewpoint Manager is a media player often bundled with AIM software. Viewpoint Manager is a useless add on.

Because Viewpoint's software will track your web surfing and tailor advertisements based on the web pages you are visiting, I suggest you remove the program.
** Note: Removing Viewpoint Media Player may cause the program that bundled it to not function as intended. For AOL and AIM it is needed to use their 3D icons known as Super Buddies and for customized themes, etc.
If you wish to remove Viewpoint, end process on ViewManager in Task Manager.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar
  • Viewpoint Experience Technology
Then remove the Viewpoint folder in your Program Files.


If everything seems to be working well, it's time for some housekeeping. Sweeping

I suggest that you keep CCleaner and use it as part of your regular maintenance.
Because the other tools we used to scan the computer, as well as tools to delete files and folders, are no longer needed, they should be removed, along with the folders created by these tools.

* Click Start then Run
* Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Notice the space between the X and the /u


This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points.

It will not delete HijackThis, in case you need to post a log here in the future. If you feel that you no longer need HijackThis remove it using Add/Remove Programs.

Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

You may have already taken some of these steps, and depending on your current security, you may not need to implement all of these:
1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

2. Consider installing the following free programs:
a. SpywareBlaster: (Not recommended for Vista)

3. Please use a firewall and realtime anti-virus. Keep the anti-virus software and firewall software up to date.

4. You might consider installing Mozilla / Firefox.

5. Do not use file sharing. Even the safest P2P file sharing programs that do not contain bundled spyware, still expose you to risks because of the very nature of the P2P file sharing process. By default, most P2P file sharing programs are configured to automatically launch at startup. They are also configured to allow other P2P users on the same network open access to a shared directory on your computer. The reason for this is simple. File sharing relies on its members giving and gaining unfettered access to computers across the P2P network. However, this practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft. Even if you change those risky default settings to a safer configuration, the act of downloading files from an anonymous source greatly increases your exposure to infection. That is because the files you are downloading may actually contain a disguised threat. Many very malicious worms and trojans, such as the Storm Worm, target and spread across P2P files sharing networks because of their known
vulnerabilities.

6. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the following Rogue/Suspect Spyware Lists.

7. If you have not already done so, you might want to install CCleaner and run it in each user's profile: http://www.ccleaner.com/
** UNcheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar that is checked by default for the Standard version, or download the toolbar-free versions (Slim or Basic) when given the option for those.

8. If you use Adobe Reader it may need to be updated to be sure that you have a more secure version. If you are using a version prior to v. 6.05, you should update to 6.05, preferably version 8.1.0 or higher.
It would be best to remove prior versions before updating to a new version.

9. Make sure you are using the most updated version of Java.
The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4
You can go here to download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
Scroll down to where it says " Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4 allows end-users to run Java applications".

Click the link to download the Windows (Offline Installation) package: Save it, do not run it. When the download is complete, close the browser.

Remove all prior versions using Add/Remove Programs, and delete the Java folder in Program Files.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Reboot.

10. Practice Safe Surfing with with TrendProtect by Trendmicro.
TrendProtect is a browser plugin that assigns a safety rating to domains listed in your search engine. TrendProtect also adds a new button to your browser's toolbar area. The icon and color of the button changes to indicate whether the page currently open is safe, unsafe, trusted, or unrated, or whether it contains unwanted content.

The following color codes are used by TrendProtect to indicate the safety of each site.

Red for Warning
Yellow for Use Caution
Green for Safe
Grey for Unknown
