Please Move HijackThis! To A Permanent Folder

When you installed HijackThis, it installed to a temporary folder. Creating a permanent folder will ensure that HijackThis is not accidentally deleted when we clean out these directories.

1. Click on "My Computer -> C:". Under the File menu, please click "New -> Folder"
2. Rename the new folder (for example, type "HJT" without the quotes) and move the HijackThis.exe file into the new directory.

Uninstall MyQuickSearch using the Add/Remove Programs utility:

1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel

2) Double click on Add/Remove Programs

3) Find "MyQuickSearch" in the list of installed programs and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it (Uninstall MusicMatch JukeBox from here too if you want to remove it). You may also want to uninstall any of the following items associated with FunWebProducts.

* My Web Search (Smiley Central or FWP product as applicable)
* My Way Speedbar (Smiley Central or other FWP as applicable)
* My Way Speedbar (AOL and Yahoo Messengers) (beta users only)
* My Way Speedbar (Outlook, Outlook Express, and IncrediMail)
* Search Assistant - My Way

When the uninstallation completes, reboot the computer.

Search for MyQuickSearch (Sometimes, folders and files are leftover after uninstalling software) and delete every instance found. Search for FunWebProducts and delete every instance found.

Please download Hoster.
Unzip the file and then run Hoster.exe
Click "Restore Original Hosts" and then click "OK".
Click the "X" to exit the program.

Run HijackThis again and put a check in the box next to these entries:

Close all windows except for HijackThis then click "Fix Checked".

Search for this file:
WindowsSP2.exe

Delete every instance of it found.
Reboot the computer.

Please download Ewido Security suite.

After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
During installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

Launch ewido by double-clicking the "e" icon on your desktop.
The program will prompt you to update - click the "OK" button.
On the left side of the main screen, click on "Update" and then click "Start Update". The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

After the updates are installed, you will see "Update Successful" in the lower left corner.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
Click on "Scanner" and choose "Settings".
Under the bottom section "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is selected.
Select "OK" and you will return to scanning options.

Boot the computer into safe mode.
Once in safe mode, continue with the instructions below:

On the main screen click on "Complete System Scan" to start the scan.
While the scan is in progress, you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the lower left corner.
Then choose "Clean" and click "OK".

When the scan has completed, Ewido will create a report.txt file.
Click the "Save Report" button on the bottom of the screen and save the log to your desktop.
Exit Ewido when done.

Reboot back into your normal user mode. Post back a new HijackThis log along with the log from the Ewido scan.
Please advise how the computer is now behaving and if you are still experiencing any issues. Thanks!

my Ewido log is over 20,000 characters and the board will not allow me to post it.

My original reason for posting on the community forums was because when I attempt to use Control Panel to remove Music Match, nothing happens. I also posted because when I attempt to remove "My Quick Search," an error message appears: "Error Loading C:\PROGRA~1\MYQUIC~1\SrchAsst\2.bin\mqssrcas.dll The specified module cannot be found." I also posted because when I attempt to remove "Web Savings from eBates," an error message appears: "Could not find the main class. Program will exit." Can I uninstall HijackThis and Ewido once these problems have been resolved? I have posted my Ewido log in a separate post, as my message was too long to post with both.

Yes, I am having the same problems that I listed in my response to your earlier post. I am unable to uninstall Music Match, My Quick Search, and eBates. I would appreciate advice relating to this specific issue. Thank you.

When we're finished up, you can uninstall HijackThis if you wish but I would keep the Ewido application and use it once a week to scan your computer.

Your log looks clean...are you still having issues?

Let's run CCleaner before the Ewido scan next time. It will speed up the scan process and won't have so many infected objects in the log:
Download CCleaner. Double click on the set up file and allow it to install to the default location. At the Cclean setup screen & Install options Uncheck the Add Ccleaner Yahoo Tool bar unless you want it.

Run CCleaner

Before first use, check under Options, Settings, and ensure "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours" is unchecked.
Then open it and select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
I recommend cleaning all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section
Clean all entries in the "System" section
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section if you have it.
Clean any others that you choose.

Then click the "Run Cleaner" button. When finished, close the application.

You should run Ewido again and post back the new log so we can see if there were any problems that Ewido could not remove.

Also, perform an onlinescan here.

- Once you are at the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click "send"
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location (Your Desktop is fine).

Post that log back here along with the new Ewido log.
Thanks!

I don't see MyQuickSearch in your log.

Are you not able to open the control panel to access the add/remove programs function?
Have you checked the Start-->all programs and navigated to the program you want to uninstall to see if there is an uninstall string there?

Did you check the Windows Progam Files tree to see if there is an uninstall string listed there?

No, I am able to open Control Panel. I have looked in the Start menu and under the Program files to find an uninstall file, but there are not. eBates and My Quick Search are not listed in my program files, yet they both still show up in Add/Remove Programs. Music Match shows up under program files, but will not uninstall from the Control Panel.

Did you follow through with all of my posted instructions? Once you've finished, post the results of the Panda scan and a new HijackThis log and we'll help you get MusicMatch off of your system. If the other two programs you mentioned appear in the add/remove programs section, just click "Remove" to uninstall them.
