after checking these, fix them, reboot into safe mode (once you start booting after bios start hitting f8 key).  once you boot into safe mode, find C:\program files\common files\wintools\  and delete everything in the wintools directory and the wintools folder itself.  reboot normally, rescan hijackthis and post back.

also, i'm curious to the entry C:\Program Files\You've Got Pictures Screensaver\ygpsstra.exe
i'm unaware of a screensaver?  did you get this directly from AOL? or in an email?

Before doing what Deborah B said (good advise)

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary. Please delete the old copy (including the zip copy) so it can't be used.

i might have messed it up doing this, i followed everything, but i couldn't find all the items that you wanted me to check off. i went off the info you gave me about after checking these, fix them, reboot into safe mode(once you start booting after bio's and such. i almost got lost on that, then i saw the pages for the hijack stuff and i figured i must of gotten messed up.

boy have i been busy today. The wintools thing just keeps popping up whenever i do anything. i earlier stated that i might have messed up. i do have backup files that i have in one of my folders. i hope someone will read again my scan and my post before and see what i erased. i restored my computer back from yesterday's running. it does seem hard doing this. don't give up on me yet. thanx.

first off i want to thank anyone who has helped me so far. Also you people are def. better at this than i, so bear with me. Chris i did everything you said up until how to show hidden files. i did everything you wanted me to do. But when i went to delete the Wintools folder it said:

cannot delete Wsup.exe. It is being used by another person or program. close any program that might be using the file and try again. What do i do to delete this folder and its contents???

also do i do everything you said??? at what point do i use the hijack contents that deb said to use. i just don't want to not do everything in it's proper order. it gets confusing the more info i am told. Again thanks!! i don't want to go any further until i get the next steps.

You should have been able to do so in safe mode.

But post a new hijackthis log for us to check - we will advise from that.

i tried this while i was waiting for a response, i ran a ad-aware 6 last night and it came up with a number of issues, one of them the Wtools.exe. So i removed them and checked the folder, under the common programs. Guess what?? the Wintool folder was empty and now my computer seems o.k. and the game so far is running fine. Unless from before i did have some files go in backup, how do i know if i deleted them from the running system?? And if i did i should put them back. thanx again.

Post a new hijackthis log - and we will clean up - and give you some advise for the future.

things are def. moving along, i hope you bear with me. i will say i am not sure i am doing it right with the hijack this stuff.

1 i click to scan.

2. the items come up and i check off the ones you want me to.

3. i save a copy on notepad.

4. i hit the fixed check button, at what point do i hit the f-8 key, and you keep saying reboot. at what point do i reboot and how??

5 i am following the hijack this pages. startup list???

genereate startup list log button, i havent been using this stuff. when the nice lady was helping me and you started helping me i hope i didn't get confused and started forgetting to do things in the right order. thanx again for being patient....signed the rookie. i will post my scan sheet now.

Exit hijackthis - then start - turn of computer - restart - then pess F8 until a menu appears (not press and hold - but press the key every 1/2 second or so)

Don't need a startup log - we need a new hijackthis log after that reboot- we will ask for a startup list if required - as it is very large
