My Search

Question

I can not search using msn from my address bar any longer. On HijackThis, an item, search hook... My Search is listed. It is very irritating and attempts to gather information from each search. I believe this is from Google. Is it safe to remove this by using HijackThis? Will this completely remove the problem of an unwanted search bar? If not, how is it removed? This is not removed by Microsoft, Adaware or Spysweeper antispyware.

Do you connect via proxy server?

Download KillBox, unzip it to your desktop, then run it. Now:

1. select " Action | Delete on reboot".
2. copy/paste the following file name(s), one at a time, in the " Paste Path of File to Delete" field:

C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll

3. click " Kill File".
4. when prompted to " Reboot Now" select " Yes".

Boot into Safe Mode.

Run HJT and tick these:

Steve, thanks for the information.  I suppose that Myway is coming from Dell judging from the items you have selected.  Interestingly, by blocking myway.com in internet options, the problem is held at bay.  You won't get a message back from me for a few days because Monday I am having a rather serious surgical problem to survive first, a replacement of a worn out hip prosthesis that may be bloody and difficult.  I don't know if I will have time today to do the removal.  Thanks again for your prompt attention to the search issue.  Myway is powered by Yahoo and claims to be non invasive but that is not true.

Hello Steve,  Since I am able to prevent myway.com from running just by blocking the site, I might just leave well enough alone.  I am not getting an error message.  This was not the case with mysearch which I have removed.  With 3 different programs guarding my host files and a proxy server, you would think that hijacks would not happen.  I have advised Spy Sweeper about myway.com.  It will be interesting to see if they will do anything.  They have removed seeq.com, another pest, in response to a report from me..  My browsing is very conservative, but even so, I pick this junk up, mostly, I think, from Google searches. Go for the Gold!

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

You need to remove MywaySA from control panel.  I tried several times but one item of dell4me remains in HijackThis.  I can block www.dell4me.com if need be.  Perhaps this is a help file and not related to Myway search. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
