BB.

Thank you.

I forgot it is Memorial day up there :emotion-21:.

I was kind of excited when I was able to create a new account. Two days ago I got the same error trying to do it.

Ky331 is also awared of my problem.

My E-Mails to US_Dell_Forums_ Support are from Wednesday and Thurday.

I imagine it is something to do with my user (iroc9555) account since finally I was able to create this account and I am not encountered any problems whatsoever to sign in.

Thank you again. Let´s see what develops.

BB,

the screenshot / error-message Hernan received is the same as one posted by Fireberd back on 12 May

en.community.dell.com/.../19378162.aspx

I posted Hernan's problem (perhaps due to a South American server ???) there on 25 May.

A related thread by Fireberd is en.community.dell.com/.../19380513.aspx

Just to point out what I know about the issue, and what I've done.

Hernan:  I don't believe you will be able to access the above two links (they're "semi-private")... but BB will.

It's a 3-day holiday weekend here, so you may not get a reply until Tuesday, but I'll report it.

David you are right. It belongs to a group I am not in.

May 12. That is almost two weeks before the Forum had the "makeover" Monday 23. So Fireberd or someone known by him was having the same problem? and I gather the problem has not been found yet?

Thank you David.

PS: What really bothers me is to start all over again.

Yes, I know that one or two others reported the same problem, but I figure maybe Dell should know that the problem still exists for Hernan.

Yes, Fireberd [and OTHERS(S)] have experienced this problem for a WHILE... but the last I saw, the problem (for him) simply disappeared as mysteriously as it originated.   So there's nothing substantial to learn from his experience there.

I've often said, "Why can't they leave well-enough alone... If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Unfortunately, most programs feel that lack of change leads to obsolescence.   (I strongly disagree... lack of change --- in a program that's working the way it should --- leads to a "comfort zone" which its users appreciate.)

It seems they always opt for "New and Improved... Bigger is Better".    We've seen they're WRONG on both counts.   NEW does not necessarily imply improved.   In reality, NEW [especially when offered in haste] often BREAKS what used to be working.   And "bigger" is often just synonymous with BLOAT.   I still use WORD (and WORKS) 2000 [or sometimes 2003... never anything newer].    Perhaps there are improvements in the latest versions... but unless I know about AND USE them, they serve me no purpose.

I've used PCs since the early '80s.  Back then, program sizes were measured in Ks (kilobytes).   By the turn of the century, most programs were measured in Ms (megabytes).    Now, it seems everything is GIGabyte sized.   Have we correspondingly gained that much functionality [and ease-of-use] in the interim?

I still wish we had singly-dedicated security products.   I would like to install/use an "anti-virus" which is JUST THAT.   Which would allow me to complement it with the [resident] "anti-spyware" program of my choice.   And the firewall of my choice.   &etc.   But so many programs --- formerly good --- are "hopping on the bandwagon" to become a full-fledged suite.   And while "Brand X" may indeed be a good/great anti-virus, it may not offer a decent firewall... and so I resent them trying to force it on me.   I will stick to the "pick-and-choose", "build your own suite" philosophy as long as I reasonably can.

I have lucked out so far this time around, and am still signed in. The problem is probably connected to this insipid "suggested answer" silliness. This new feature, to me, is USELESS, because an answer will not necessarily be a solution to the problem, but just a reply on the path toward finding a solution.

I have not been that lucky. I have had problems in the past when something is done to the Forums, but NEVER like this, almost a week without been able to get in. I was lucky though when I was able to create this new account Saturday because I tried earlier in the week and I got the same error just trying to register it.

I would have to wait until Tuesday and see what gives.

Hernan,

just a quick thought... the fact that you're able to log-on via a new account likely eliminates the conjecture that your problem was based on using a South American server... i believe your new account should be going through the same server as your old one.

in other words, what's happening is just "pot luck", which no real "rhyme nor reason".

David.

You are correct, and it also eliminates my comp :emotion-11:

Now, when I was writing the OP and clicked the icon to insert the image, I got the same error in the pop up window, weird. Since I had the image in Photobucket, I copy/paste the URL to the post. Then, Just for the heck of it, I tried again the image icon a second time, and it worked. I just sticked a modified (smaller) image I had in my PC to the post. So even though I have not had any problems signing in with this user ID, for a moment there the error showed up again.

Thank you again David for your help and support.

Hernan,

Welcome back!

I just saw a comment (elsewhere) from Robert that asserted "Seems like the sig file is the culprit.  Try removing the sig file, logging in, then replacing the sig file".

I then asked him "am I missing something here?? --- if a person gets the error message and can't log-in, how are they supposed to access their signature file in order to remove it?"

Of course, I guess HE was was able to access/adjust YOURS.

I am back :emotion-2:

I would like to thank you and BB for your help. Also Rick and Robert who this afternoon changed some settings on member signatures.

Yes that was what PudgyOne told me and you are right I did not do anything. Robert and other forum managers have, I suppose, the power to do what they want to your user account.

Now, even though I am able to sign in, I am having the yellow triangle in lower IE  state bar  that says there is an error in the page, but I do not care. I am in again.

"even though I am able to sign in, I am having the yellow triangle in lower IE  state bar  that says there is an error in the page"....

you're not the only one... someone else just reported this.

It's the forum.   nothing to worry about.... and nothing WE can do about it, until someone decides to fix it.
