I'm not sure if your problem is malware related.

First a couple of questions;

1. When you say "the PC shuts down and the screen goes blank" are you talking about a Black screen, or a blank blue screen.
2. Does the the PC do this even if it is not networked at the time?
Please provide the information in your reply

Also Let's do this

Click Start->> Run
Type in " drwtsn32" (without the quotes)
Then O.K.

When Dr watson opens up, there will be an application error box at the bottom with error reports in it.

Click (hilite) one of the errors and Select view.

the information about the crash will be displayed in another window, copy and paste that as a reply to this thread.

If there are no errors please reply

The problems I am haveing is my computer is arbitrarily shutting down on me (ie.  the screen goes blank and I have to use the tower power button to shut it down and restart it).  It appears some specific word files on my computer can allow this to happen when opened, but it also just randomly shuts down on it's own, whether I am on the internet, viewing emails, or something else.

The second problem is I have another computer networked to this one that is starting to do the same thing.  It is a firewall router if that helps.  Anxiously waiting a reply!

Thanks for the help.

There were no errors listed.  The main computer screen goes black.  The tower power light is still on when this happens, but the monitor power light turns orange, like it is in power save mode.  The second computer does the same thing, but at times the tower makes a weird clicking sound when this happens.  It doesn't matter if it is networked to the first or not.  It still does it.

Could this be an overheating problem?  Someone commented on this earlier, before the other "thread" was closed.  Again, the help is appreciated.

If it were a software crash there would be errors in Dr Watson.

The Ewido scan showed no signs of infection, except some cookies, which do not represent infection.

Since the PC goes from running to shutdown, without the appearance of any screensaver activity, overheating would be my first assumption.

As I am not a hardware expert, you may want to post on one of the other boards here at Dell which deal with such problems.

It is odd that you have more than one PC acting up, you may want to check the power supply to the PC's themselves. Maybe it's a low voltage problem at the source.

You could also confirm that the processor cooling fan is working.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help
