NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
Have had an Inspiron 1000 for about six weeks and having problems. Have repeatedly (over the past two weeks) attempted to reach Tech Support and Customer Care only to be disconnected after 12 to 20 minutes, often before I even get to talk to a person.
The last day this happened (3/8/05) I spent an hour and a half on the phone, and had to repeat the call SIX TIMES!
Well, one sure way to get a person is to call the number where somebody wants to sell you something. But I even got disconnected from them. Twice.
Long story short, nothing gained, and I am reluctant to waste any more time with DELL for fear that it will be exactly that: time wasted.
I will certainly tell everyone to avoid DELL whenever the topic comes up.
If DELL has a hand in this Forum, I hope to hear from DELL.
If not, any readers, take heed:
*If you're just looking to buy a DELL, DON'T DO IT!*
If you've already done it, good luck, my friend.

Michael: If you have a problem with spyware or viruses, please state your problem here and most likely you can be helped. If it is any other issue go to the proper forum, or if a problem with customer service, go to the customer service general board.
People sitting in cubicles halfway around the world reading from a script are not going to be of much help to you. That's the reason for being of these forums. The moderators here are Dell employees; the rest of us are users, and some of the users are very good at troubleshooting and knowing their way around Dell products. Dell computers are good products, probably the best in many peoples opinion, but the customer service is not. Good luck

i too have had problems with tech support. I have never been disconnected but have experienced very long wait times of up to 30 minutes. once connected, I have found them to be somewhat helpful and, in most cases, even got a follow up call. thus far, my experience with resolving issues through positng on forums has proved to be the most effective. So far I have gotten a reply within the same day and from someone who seems to know what they are talking about. Thank you Mike, who has been replying to my post. I was disappointed, though, that I had to go through the process of fixing my dell inspiron 1150 only 1 month after purchasing it.

I totally agree. I have recently purchased a dimension 3000 that my brother built for me. I am probably one level above clueless when it comes to hardware and all that computer talk. I want to copy pictures, email, attempt to make my movies into dvds. My problem is that it is so slow and its supposed to be super fast. I think its either the SP2 or the media center(leaning more towards this) I don't think it has or at least had to do with the internet b/c I hadn't even set up my service for that yet. Everytime I play that game gem master or try bring pictures from a cd it goes starts out ok and then gradually gets slower until it freezes. I have called 2 times the second time being on hold for 2 and 1/2 hours. My speaker phone was on...I unloaded the dishwasher, cooked supper, loaded the dishwasher and put my kids to bed and still not one single person came on the line. Once I got the net set up I tried their support system there and nothing. I had a couple of bad things about dell but my brother and mom insisted that I get a dell "They are the best and have the best customer service" If this is the best I hate to see the worst. I would also like a response if a dell person actually checks this stuff.

Dawn: Your problem could be anything, but slowness in a new computer could be because of malware/spyware. On the other hand it might be a hardware or software problem. You might check some of the other posts here on the spyware forum to find the links to HiJackThis and other tests and utilities that could isolate the problem. Follow the instructions on how to make the scan and display the results on the new HJT forum in your own thread.
You might also go to the Dimension General Hardware forum and list your systems symptoms there to see if someone recognizes what your problem might be. Please bring your problems to the forums rather than sit on the phone...those people are really not equipped to troubleshoot and suggest solutions. Good luck!!
