Probably uninstall it.  Though I don't know exactly what you mean by "can't access anything".  NIS has a bad habit of corrupting TCP/IP Stacks and what not.

I use Windows XP SP2's built in firewall, which is sufficient, and I use Avast which is better than AVG according to most people.  Though some prefer AVG.  You can get avast from here Spyware Removal

click spyware removal or virus removal, and look for Avast Home edition or professional if you prefer the features of the pro edition or if you aren't a non-commercial user. Avast is better than Norton and Mcafee in my opinion (some agree). If you were a large corporation I'd say stick with Norton or Mcafee though, just because they are a big company that SHOULD have support and better testing.

Guys,

My Norton IS 2004 showed a URL Security Update today. The download part worked great. But the installation went...very...very....very...very slowly. If you are familiar with Norton IS, the URL Security Updates add those updates to the Parental Control List, than it is supposed to save the Parental Control List. It took about 5-10 minutes for the installation to complete and the program was very slow on closing. On the second install attempt, I received a Low Virtual Memory Warning. I also closed out of everything in the System Tray with no change. Restart gets everything back to normal, except Live Update shows that the URL Updates still need to be installed. I did this twice with the same result. (First time, I got no virutual memory warning.) I will wait for a week or so for a new update release. If that doesn't solve the problem I will be uninstalling the software and switching to AVG and use XP-SP 2's built-in firewall. I need to know if others are having problems today to determine if this is a fluke.

I have used Norton AV, not NIS since IBM sold their consumer AV products to Norton many years ago.  For me, it has been like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps working and working.  I have also experimented on my three PCs and have been unable to support that the contention that it is a resource hog,  as far as I can say it is Myth Busted.

The fact that you were able to send the E-mail suggests you are able to connect to the web but not able to view any pages.  That's exactly what happened on my system after I downloaded Norton's update, although I have the 2004 version.   Without having to uninstall and reinstall, this is what I did -- just below your browser menu line (I use Internet Explorer) is Norton's green icon next to the words "web assistant".  Click on that, disable the firewall and confirm and exit.  Press the refresh button and hopefully your web page will load.  If not, see plan A, the uninstall route.  Good luck!  Anne:womanvery-happy:

I uninstalled all my Norton and went with AVG in conjunction with XP's SP-2 firewall,

I couldn't be happier!

The Norton support website now has a solution to this problem -- it was only updated on 6/28, so a lot of us had the same or similar problems with no solution for awhile.  I was successful in accessing the internet by doing a scan of internet enabled programs under their firewall rules.  You'll find these instructions on their support website, and it does take a little bit of time to complete.

MUCH easier just to get rid of their software!  :D
