Welcome. Thank you for using Dell Community Forums.
I am reviewing your log.
In the meantime, you can help me by doing the following:

* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.

* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it.
Definition of cracked software:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking

* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state.

* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?

* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.

* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.
Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.

** We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case.
Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

* If your replies do not fit in one post while we are handling your issue, please reply to yourself until all text is submitted. It may take several posts.

I look forward to your reply.

Bugbatter,

Thanks for helping with this... it's really nasty... lots of stuff constantly popping up, it takes me several times just to get to my email.

I haven't posted on any other forums.

Not using any cracked software.

Not using any P2P programs.

The computer was built by and belongs to me.

I haven't fixed anything yet with HJT, just followed the initial instructions.

No problems, I'll do what you tell me.

Thanks

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
  • (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back here with a fresh HijackThis log and let me know how things are running.

Open Task Manager and kill this process:
My Web Search Bar and/or My Bar (However listed)

If you do not use Party Poker, remove it via Add/Remove Programs.
Delete the Party Gaming folder here:
C:\Program Files\ PartyGaming

MyWebSearch (or MyBar) is not technically malware, but it may bring malware with it.
There are safer alternatives available such as the Google toolbar. I recommend that you remove it.

Remove My Search Bar, My WebSearch Email Plugin, MyWebSearchWB. and My Web Search Bar Search Scope Monitor (whichever ones are listed)
using Add/Remove Programs.
Launch HijackThis.

Here are the components to fix with HJT:

O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: My Web Search - {07B18EA9-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [My Web Search Bar Search Scope Monitor] "C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\m3SrchMn.exe" /m=2 /w
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe

If you removed Party Poker, fix these if they still exist:
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/ei/MyFunCardsFWBInitialSetup1.0.0.15-3.cab

Close all windows and click "Fix Checked". Close HijackThis.

Reboot.

Run Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure only the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. It is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4 allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each of the Java versions.

  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Official JAVA Installation Instructions if needed.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log for final review and let me know how things are running.

Thanks alot Bugbatter,

I've done everything you asked, the computer is rebooting itself without warning when I'm in email or other programs.  Other than that all the pop ups are gone.

Here's the last log.

I don't see any new malware in your log.
The rebooting could be from many things -- RAM problems, hardware, or power problems.

You could try going to Settings / Control Panel / System / Advanced / Startup and Recovery / Settings.
Make sure the box is UNCHECKED where it says "Automatically Restart" under System Failure." Now, instead of your computer rebooting when there`s an error, you should receive an error message(BSOD) telling you what caused the problem.

Pay particular attention to any drivers identified in the stop message.

A list of Windows stop messages can be found here:
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
Right-click the system tray icon for AVG Anti-Spyware and uncheck real time protection so it does not interfere with HijackThis.

Please launch HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O23 - Service: Alerter AlerterAvg7Alrt (AlerterAvg7Alrt) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ahuiz.exe (file missing)

Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked". Close HijackThis.
Reboot.

Let's do a follow-up online scan: F-Secure Online Scanner
The online scanner is on the bottom right of the page.
Direct link: http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml

Follow the directions on the F-Secure page for proper Installation.

* You may receive an alert on the address bar at this point to install the ActiveX control.
* Click on that alert and then click " Install ActiveX component".
* Read the license agreement and click " Accept".
* Click " Custom Scan" and be sure the following are checked:
  • Scan whole System

  • Scan all files
  • Scan whole system for rootkits
  • Scan whole system for spyware
  • Scan inside archives
  • Use advanced heuristics

* When the scan completes, click the " I want to decide item by item" button.
* For each item found, Select " Disinfect" and click " Next".

* When done, click the " Show Report" button, then copy and paste the entire report into your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

If that looks clean, we'll remove our tools, and I'll send you to the XP Board to troubleshoot your rebooting problem.
