Old Problems

Well my comp has taken a beating over the last year, and finally decided to clean up everything.

Some of the problems that i have had include:
- Windows not shutting down (still happens)
- "best offers" pop-ups (i think all of it is removed)
- Windows restarting and nothing appears on the screen (only happens when a program is deleted and needs to restart the comp)
- Sluggish Performance (every now and then)
- Windows never goes idle, always acts as if something is running (still happens)
- Block-Checker (removed)
- Winfixer 2006 (removed)

I have used xoftspy v4.21 and also followed some instructions on other pages to help with some of the problems. e.g (ad-aware, VX2-cleaner, VundoFix)

I was wondering if you could help and see if everything is back to how it should be.

Thanx

Download lspfix.exe to your desktop and run it.  http://www.cexx.org/LSPFix.exe

Then check

I Know what I am Doing

then move all instances of 'xfire_lsp_10406.dll' from the left pane to the Right then Finish.

That should take care of the O10 entry.

Download the killbox:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it.

Shutdown and Restart and Boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option. Log in as your usual login or you won't find the programs you put on the desktop
and some of the entries may not appear we want to remove will not appear in HijackTHis.

Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check  then Fix Checked the following:

O2 - BHO: RXResultTracker Class - {59879FA4-4790-461c-A1CC-4EC4DE4CA483} - C:\Program Files\RXToolBar\sfcont.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SemanticInsight] C:\Program Files\RXToolBar\Semantic Insight\SemanticInsight.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Kazaa-All-in-One] C:\Program Files\Kazaa-All-in-One\Kazaa-All-in-One.exe -startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Kazaa All-In-One] C:\Program Files\Kazaa-All-in-One\Kazaa-All-in-One.exe
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net\partypokernet.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net\partypokernet.exe

Run killbox.  Open Options and check Remove Directories
Where it says Full Path of File to Delete you need to type or copy (Hightlight and Ctrl + c)
and Paste (move to the killbox and place the cursor in the box and Ctrl + V):

C:\Program Files\RXToolBar

Then check the Delete on Reboot box then the red button.
It will say:  File Will Be Removed On Reboot, Do you want to reboot Now.
Tell it NO.  (If it can't find it that's OK just go on to the next one)

Repeat for:

C:\Program Files\TBONBin

C:\Program Files\Kazaa-All-in-One

C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net

Let it reboot after the last one.

Run a new log and post it as a reply.  Delete all of the O18 entries before posting and it should fit in one forum post.  The O18 are caused by a bug in Logitech Desktop Messenger.  Uninstall it and check/Fix Checked all of the O18 entries that remain (if any) then if this is something you really use you can download the latest version from Logitech  http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,CRID=1810,contentid=6182

You still have the O10 entry.  If lspfix.exe did not fix it then we have several other possibilities.  Easiest since you have SP2 is to Start, Run, cmd, OK to bring up a new black cmd window.  Then type:

netsh winsock reset catalog

and hit Enter.  Reboot.

That will remove any non standard winsock entries.  If there was something there that you wanted it would need to be reinstalled.

Other than that your log looks clean.  A few other checks:

Close everything then Rightclick on the clock and select Task Manager then Processes then click twice on CPU.  The top process should now be System Idle with over 95% of the CPU Usage.  IF not what are the top three and what % CPU usage do they have?

Start, Run, sigverif, OK to bring up a new program and hit Start.  Then when it finishes click once on the Modified column header to sort them by date.  Look at the list for wininet.dll and any dll, sys or exe files that have recent dates.

Clean out the Found folder that Killbox made as a backup.  Run killbox then File. Open !Killbox Backups and delete the Found Folder (highlight the Found folder and hit the X on the toolbar and then say OK.

Also remove the Hijackthis backups.  View the list of Backups then Delete All.  (Otherwise they may get detected when running antimalware scans.)

Good idea to delete the files in Symantec/Norton's Quarantine folder too.

Following procedure gets rid of some stuff often added by malware that we cannot see from Hijackthis.

Download the Hoster from:

http://www.funkytoad.com/

Unpack to your desktop and run it.  If you have green print at the top then just press Restore Original Hosts then OK.
IF you have red print then press make Hosts Writeable first.

Get DelDomain.inf from:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf  and then right click on it and Install.

Download and install ccleaner.exe from http://www.ccleaner.com. Run ccleaner.exe, uncheck everything on the first page except the two entries
with Temporary and the one about the recycle bin and then Run Cleaner.

Also turn off System Restore then wait until it finishes removing it then turn it back on again.

Suggest you install MicrosoftAntiSpy and let it do a full scan (see under scan options) while in Safe Mode.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/downloads/default.mspx

Also try Spybot S&D.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
And AdAware.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

A few online scans might also be a good idea.

www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/activescan.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

You can also try RootKitRevealer from SysInternals and see if it finds anything:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/RootkitRevealer.html
