Please help Java not working?

This is the  forum where we read logs and remove malware, but maybe we can do this one quickly.

Give this a try:

Download -- to your Desktop -- JavaRa.Zip from either of these two sites:

• Unzip the download. This will create a new Folder, JavaRa on your Desktop.
• Double click this new Folder to open it, and double click the file within: JavaRa to execute the program.
• Click the button: Remove Older Versions.
• Agree to the cleanup operation by clicking Yes. After a moment, a notice will appear that a log file has been produced. Click OK. Close the Notepad view that opens.
• Click the button: Other Tasks.
• Choose these options:
• Remove Useless JRE Files
  Remove Startup Entry
  Remove JavaRa Logfile
  
• Click Go. When it finishes, click OK to close the panel, and then Exit the program.
• Delete the download, and the unzipped folder and all contents.
• Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
• Download Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12.
• Select Windows Offline Installation > SAVE it to your desktop, do not RUN it yet.
• When the download is complete, close all browser windows and double-click on the saved file to install the update. Be patient: It may take five (5) minutes or more for the installation to complete.
• If the installation gives you the option to install a toolbar UNCHECK the option if you don't want it .
• Delete the downloaded installation file after completing the above procedure and reboot if not prompted to do so.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I was working with another forum in the Dell community but after several days the only solution was to restore my computer which I really didn't want to do. That's why I took a stab at this forum. I followed all your instructions and everything was going beautiful until I got to the java.sun. http. I couldn't find where it said offline installation?  I hope i didn't just miss it. Thanks so much.

After you specify Windows >Continue ....the next page will show the option.

Try installing it in Safemode.

Reboot into Safemode:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key. Wait while some drivers load.
When you see a menu,  use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

Following the installation reboot normally.

If that doesn't work post  a HijackThis log. Instructions are at the top of this forum.

Let us know if you have had any trouble with other .exe files.

Try that again logged in as Admin.

I tried it in safemode and this message came up "the system adminstrator has set policies to prevent this installation." Do you want me to do a hijack log? Thanks.

I logged in Admin. and the file wasn't there for me to try it.

Unless you deleted it, it's there, but because you are in Safemode you probably cannot see it because of the way the Desktop is displayed. Try it in normal mode logged in as Admin.

My computer does not offer me a way to log myself off and then, log on as administrator. I am the only user set up on my pc and I checked in control panel and my account does have administrator privelages. I tried it again in safe mode & when it was not on the desktop, I went into the C:/ drive. Now, once I click documents and settings in the c:/ drive, it brings up TWO accounts, Primary User and Administrator. So, I went to the desktop of primary user and it was there. I again clicked to open it but, it still tells me the same thing, that i do not have privelages to run it?

My pc just isn't set up to log out the primary user and then, log into the adminstrator. Any idea what I can do?

Have you been able to install programs and handle configurations in the past using your primary account?

Yes, I've never had a problem doing anything on my computer.

Download to your Desktop, FixPolicies.exe, a self-extracting ZIP archive from here:

    * Double-click FixPolicies.exe.
    * Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open.
    * The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies.
    * Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd.
    * A black box will briefly appear and then close. This will enable your Control Panel and stop the Administrative warnings, at least until the malware infection resets the registry policy keys again. You can run this as many times as you like. A permanent fix requires removing the infection.

  Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
• Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.

MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

• If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
• Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
• If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates,
• manually download them from here
  and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer,
  copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in
  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes'
  Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine.

On the Scanner tab:

• Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
• Then click on the Scan button.
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top.
• It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully.
• Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.

Back at the main Scanner screen:

• Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy and paste the contents of that report along with a HijackThis log into your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,
you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process.
Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately.
Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine.
If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer),
they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM.
Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes.

If it is version 2.02 just use that.

Before I do this, I have a question. I have Hijackthis  installed on my computer from a previous problem I had. The install was recommended from this forum and it solved the issue right away. The problem is I have never removed it because it says it has to be manually removed and I don't know how to do that. Is it going to cause any problem having it on there? Thanks.
