Pikachu,

What are the problems your system is experiencing?

First, check " Add/Remove programs" from within " Control Panel" for anything pertaining to " web rebates", if you find them, then remove em'

Next, put " HiJackThis" in it's own folder on your harddrive, other than a 'temp' directory. If you required to 'clean' this directory out, you'll loose your ability to recover any entries that might need to be restored.

Create a manual " System Restore" point.

These are the entries that need to be 'fixed':

C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates1.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebRebates0] "C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe"
O8 - Extra context menu item: Web Rebates - file://C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\Sy1150\Tp1150\scri1150a.htm

After that, reboot back into " Safe Mode", make sure you can view hidden and system files, then delete any of the following if present:

[folder] " Web_Rebates" located in "C:\Program Files\".

Repost a log back so we can make sure everything is 'clean'.

Mike.

I already put the HJT folder in my C:\ drive.
I dont get why a message popped up and said that
I need to put it in there, and then you told me to do the same
when I saw to it that it is in there... Maybe I didn't save the file
when I download it? (I did that)

I have this www.searchtheweb search bar right below the regular
internet explorer search bar, and I think this is a spyware, I already
uninstalled the program from the Add and Remove ..but why it is still there?

Also should I delete this too O4 - Global Startup: Search.vbs...
I think that's also a spyware..cuz its message keeps on popping up..

thanks

Pikachu,

That's correct, you've got a good eye!

Have " HiJackThis" fix these two entries after all browser windows are closed.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {83DE62E0-5805-11D8-9B25-00E04C60FAF2} - C:\WINDOWS\2_0_1browserhelper2.dll
O4 - Global Startup: Search.vbs

Then, reboot back into "Safe Mode", make sure you can view hidden and system files, locate and delete:

[file]   Search.vbs

If your still having problems, just post us a new log back.

Mike.

Hi Pikachu, Mike,

Check this one out as well:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SyncroAd] C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\SyncroAd.exe

Fix would involve add/remove programs for syncroad,
fixing the line above and
removing the C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd folder.

I think this is just housekeeping, but this line can also be fixed:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000010-6F7D-442C-93E3-4A4827C2E4C8} - (no file)

Okay, I think my drives are clean.. except for the Search the Web search bar right below Explorer bar is still there!!!! (I saw " Viewpoint" on it, should I uninstall that program " Viewpoint Toolbar"? would that make the search bar go away?)

Also, I forget, where do I have to go to "show all hidden files and folders"?
.. so I can find Search.vbs and delete it
(what is the point of putting your computer in Safe Mode to do the deleting?)

thanks guys

I saw "Viewpoint" on it, should I uninstall that program "Viewpoint Toolbar"?

Yes, you can.

Also, I forget, where do I have to go to "show all hidden files and folders"?

"Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options... | View"

Tick "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
Click "Ok".

(what is the point of putting your computer in Safe Mode to do the deleting?)

It keeps some problem programs and dll(s) from starting up; it's a limited startup. This prevents any '[...] cannot be deleted, file is in use" problems.

Mike.

Ok, that looks pretty good.

Here are a few more entries to consider, but i'll let you make the decision on these:

C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\SyncroAd.exe
C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\WinSync.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SyncroAd] C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\SyncroAd.exe
(If you don't want this, uninstall it from "Add/Remove programs")

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML
(If you don't want this, uninstall "Viewpoint" from "Add/Remove programs")

O8 - Extra context menu item: Shorten URL - http://www.cjb.net/menuext.html
(If you don't want this, see if it has an uninstall entry, otherwise, fix it with "HiJackThis")

Pikachu,

First, try un-installing ' Ares', if your not able to remove it using " Add/Remove programs", try this:

Reboot into " Safe Mode".

Run HiJackThis, click " Scan", then check(tick) the following entry(s), if present:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [areslite] "C:\Program Files\Ares Lite Edition\AresLite.exe" -h
(I believe this is password cracking software.)

Now, with all windows closed, except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Locate and remove the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view hidden and system files/ folders.

C:\Program Files\Ares Lite Edition\AresLite.exe

Reboot your computer normally.

Mike.
