Hi jimmcnealy

Welcome to the Dell Community Malware Removal Forum,

I'm kevin27 (or K27 for short) and i will be reviewing you log for you.

Please DO NOT run any scans/tools/fixes on your own as this will conflict with the tools we are going to use.

Please Print or Save to Notepad all instructions and please follow them carefully and if there's something you don't understand or that will not work please let me know and we will go through it together.

I will post back as soon as I have decided on the best course of action to take with your malware issues.

Thankyou for your patience,
K27.

jimmcnealy,

If you reinstall with your vista DVD then yes it will wipe every thing on the machine including all files/pictures/music and programs you have installed,
There are very few infections then we cant clean entirely but I will know more once I have reviewed your next set off logs,
If you would prefer to do a clean install then please post back and let me know and I will refer you to the appropreate forum for re-installs.
If you would like to try and save your system the please follow these instructions in the order they are written.

  • Double click your Malwarebytes desktop icon
  • Click the UPDATE tab at the top
  • Scan for and install any updates it finds
  • Then choose the SCANNER tab and run a QUICK SCAN
  • Post the MBAM log results back to this thread

NOTE: If MBAM encounters a file that is hard to remove it will prompt for a delete on reboot, answer yes to this and once rebooted please run another scan and post that scan's log results along with the log results from before reboot which can be found under the LOGS tab of Malwarebytes.

I need to see some additional information about what is happening in your machine.
Please perform the following scan:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs
  • 1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
  • The instructions here ask you to attach the Attach.txt.

  • Instead of attaching, please copy/past both logs into your next reply.

  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.
Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
Information on A/V control HERE

Please COPY/PASTE your FRESH MBAM log(s) and BOTH DDS logs.

Thankyou,
K27.

Though I do have personal files backup off site, I'm not interested in the clean install approach. I'll run post logs back to this thread.

dds does not produce the popup for saving files. I have disabled all the real-tine script protection fro AVG 9.0, Microsoft Security Essentials, Ad-Aware, and stopped MalwareBytes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

When you say "DDS does not produce the popup for saving files" do you mean you DDS will not work at all or you see the command prompt window and no logs appear.

Once DDS is started you should see a CMD prompt window with a brief description on running the tool and after a while you should have two(2) Notepad files appear, both containing logs.
If the Notepad files appear then navigate to FILE on the top tool bar and then click SAVE AS..
Save them to your desk top and then COPY/PASTE them back here.

If nothing happens after starting DDS or it starts and does not finish please let me know exactly what happens, also please post back any error messages you may recieve and we can try another tool to get a log.

As a added note, it is really not a good idea to have two Anti-Virus programs running on your machine, they will cause more harm than good.
Please totally UN-INSTALL ONE of either AVG or MS Security Essentials and then totally DISABLE the other, not just the script blocking part.

Thanks,
K27
