A recent post by ChrisRLG:

Lots of the regular posting anti-malware experts on this board have moved to pastures new for various reasons. You may find it better to find another support site to assist you.

Please go to this link and choose one of the websites on the left of the page.
Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals: http://www.a-sap.org/
As you can see they all work together in cleaning malware (Virus, Spyware and adware).

To help you choose from that list

TomCoyotes contains the anti-malware school - Classroom.
SpyWareInfo contains the anti-malware school - BootCamp.
Net-Intergration is the support site of Spybot S&D.
Lavasoft Support is the support site of Ad-aware.
Wilders Security has since stopped hijackthis log support due to the lack of experienced helpers.
Others that I would recommend Zerosrealm, Subratam.org, SpyWare BeWare and ComputerCops, but generally all those on that list will have experts to help you.
Texruss and ChrisRLG are Teachers at The TomCoyote Forum.

There are still some knowledgable people left posting here at Dell, so you may still get help from them.

I wish you all the best at getting your computer clean.

Me (cghost) again:
You will get the best help at those places.

I am a novice at this and might be able to help if the problems are not too severe.
The Hun that you mention is a coolwebsearch domain. Some of the newer variants of this are beyond my knowledge. If it's an older version and/or there are some other issues I may be able to offer some help.
If you want to see if I can help you prior to going to another site, here are some steps for you:

You can find adaware, cwshredder, and hijackthis at this link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?act=Resources&CODE=01&sort_by=Z-A&sort_key=date&cat=22&st=0
Please download each of them.

You can find tutorials here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?act=Tutorials&CODE=01&CID=38

Please run adaware and cwshredder.

Please see that hijackthis is at version 1.98.2 or higher.
Then run and post a hijackthis log and I'll see if your remaining problems are ones that I can help you with.

Regards

cg

K-Lee80,

Your problem may be a very simple one. Have you tried hitting the start buttom and going to Control Panel-

Then to Internet options. Under the General tab, you will see an address bar that allows you to set the "homepage". Mine says,  http://www.google.com

This causing my computer to open to the Google search engine each time I open my "Internet Explorer" after I have dialed my internet connection. I like it because it doesn't load any adds, just their logo and the place to type in what you are looking for.

If this does not fix the problem, then by all means get a free trial of McAfee or Norton Anti-virus. If you don't have one of them, you will need one anyway. I went for 7 years starting in 1996 without having to have one. Now there is just no choice. Also beware!, I found that the site for "hijack this" returned a nice little trojan worm to my computer. Thank goodness I had McAfee to catch it before it did any damage.

I wish you the best.

Roseweb, could you post the link where you downloaded a trojan along with HijackThis? When you post it, put spaces in the URL so it can't be clicked.

I'm sure that if it's an authorized distribution site, the site operators would be very interested to know about this.

You can try CWShredder - repairs browser hijacking (but not all of them).

You can download it from here:

My copies are clean (and authorized), if anyone needs them (Ad-aware, HijackThis, CWShredder, Spybot-S&D):

Happy hunting!

Not all of us have moved off to other sites :) I still visit here occasionally in between managing my own site (below in the sig).

Please do the following:

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.

Download HijackThis from:

HijackThis Download Site #1

or

HijackThis Download Site #2

Save this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program named hijackthis.exe. When the program opens click on the Config button, then click on the Misc Tools button, and click on the Check for update online button. When it completes checking/applying updates press the back button.

Now click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.

Create a reply to this post here and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.

Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing.

To see a tutorial with screenshots on using HijackThis you can click on the link below:
