phyl55,

Popups come in several flavors. First, there are those that are launched by Internet Explorer. Those can be handled quite well by the Google Toolbar. Second, there are those that arrive via the "Messenger Service". Those can be stopped by using  XP's firewall, or another firewall, such as http://www.zonelabs.com/ ZoneAlarm. You can also stop them by turning the "Messenger Service" off, since you probably don't need it anyway (it's intended for sending administrative messages on a LAN), by taking the steps shown in this Microsoft article.

Regarding "Terrabyte", I've found conflicting information as to what it is. If you've downloaded, updated, and run Ad-Aware and SpyBot as described in the second link listed below, and the problems still aren't resolved by them or the two "popup stoppers" described above, the next step is to download, install, and run HijackThis, an analysis and repair tool also described in the second link below. After running HijackThis, submit the log to this board as a reply to this thread.

Please be patient if you need to submit a HijackThis log. The problems being seen are becoming ever more complex, and the number of trained volunteers available is resulting in backlogs here and in other forums where expert help is available.

Thank you, jimw!  I feel like I've really made some progress.  I installed the Google Toolbar.  The messenger service was already disabled.  I was not running Spybot and downloaded and installed it.  I did have Adaware, but was not running it as the instructions stated.  Since I did those things, I haven't had popup or the terrabyte error!!  It's still early...hasn't really been very long, but I'm feeling good about "stuff".  Thanks so much for your help.  If it continues, I'll look further...maybe the hijackthis.  Thanks again!
