Type in 192.168.1.254 in the url address bar and press enter.
Click Broadband DSL Line.
Click Configure Connection to your right.
Set Connection Type to always on if not already set.
Click Save and restart connection.
If internet does not work 5 minutes after disconnect modem and turn off computer. Plug modem back up and get it on and wait till your DSL light is solid green and your internet light is solid green then turn back on your pc and restart it again after two minutes. That usually solves the trick.
If you have any concern about malware or viruses try spywareblaster/spybot search and destroy and Ad-Aware 2007. All free.

Have you tried using a different modem?
If you want another opinion there are some good programs listed in the top under free security software. There are some you can donwload and install and others you can do an online scan with.

You could try Malwarebytes' Antimalware, and if you like it you can keep it as an on-demand scanner. (it is not an online scanner and will be downloaded to you pc). compatible OS include: Win 2K/03/XP/Vista
Are you able to access the internet at this point from your pc, if so it may be beneficial to donwload and install Malwarebyte's Antimalware from here. Here are directions for this. After allowing MBAM to download to your desktop double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Make sure to click on the update Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. When the program is successfully installed choose to perform a quick. After the scan is completed check the entries found by MBAM and click remove selected. A log will appear and be saved in the logs tab. If MBAM has difficulty removing any infections click OK when presented with any prompts the program gives you.
If you are unable to access the internet from the pc you are experiencing problems with download MBAM from the above link onto a disk (flash drive, DVD, etc). Insert the disk into the mentioned pc, and follow the above directions.

What did it find? You can post the log here if you want. You may need to do some more cleaning depending on what it found.

sbeetle,
3 of the 4 items detected by MBAM --- the ones labeled as Heuristics.Reserved.Word.Exploit -- are related to your Creative PlayCenter 2.0 .
while i can't guarantee this, my "gut" says they're "false-positives".
I suggest you [join, if necessary, and] post this log in the MBAM f/p forum and await a response from them:

i've added a post to yours at the MBAM forum, specifically linking them to the 3-year old HJT log you had posted here at DELL. That log contained a related entry, and the analyst who helped you back then did not have you remove it --- and it's on that basis that I'm questioning its status now.
let's see what they have to say.

basically, it looks like they need to get their hands on the actual file, to analyze it futher.
question: if you open MBAM, and click on the quarantine tab, is the file (services.dll) still listed there?
[if so, leave it alone until we get some further instructions --- just tell me whether or not it's listed there]if it is, click on the services.dll file, then click on the restore button.
[if asked to confirm, or click on OK, then be sure to do so]
then go to the following webpage:
http://uploads.malwarebytes.org/
scroll down until you see the box before file 1, and then copy/paste the complete filename there:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Services.dll
then click on the UPLOAD button.
that will send it to MBAM for analysis
if the file is not there... by any chance, do you have the original disk from Creative that contains the program?

Does this mean you can potentially restore deleted items?
