Problem running Ad-aware after installation.

Question

I've downloaded Ad-aware SE Personal software via download.com (which got listed as an unknown publisher) . A few seconds after starting to run it I get a window saying System Shutdown NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM followed by a window saying 'windows must restart because the DCOM server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly. Is there any way round this? download.com is a recommended downloader of lavasoft. What's going on? tremaine

there is also another great spyware program you can use besides adware called spybot try downloadeing spybot and see if it does the same thing

Please try to uncheck 'Always try to unload modules before deletion' option in Ad-Aware Configuration (Tweak button -> Cleaning Engine -> Always try to unload modules before deletion). Enable it back after several scans and restarts. If it doesn’t help, please update your antivirus application, and run a full system scan. If you can keep your system up long enough, try this scan and see if it turns anything up...

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click " Free Online Scan".
2. Click " Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) " Auto Clean".
3. Click " Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

tremaine,   I had a similar problem on one of my computers a few months back. I went ahead and removed the program using the add/remove feature in Win XP. Then I went ahead and found another download site on the list published by LAVASOFT and it worked perfectly the first time after it was downloaded and installed. Just a thought for you. The experts in this forum are people like Mike and Denny...:smileyhappy:   Note: I was pretty certain that this machine had no other problems on it when I did the install.
