problems!!!!!!

Question

O.k, not sure if I saved the Hijack this right or not, its in Program Files, so I think I did, anyways, here is the scan log that it came up with if anyone can please help me out and let me know if theres anything wrong.  Im getting a bunch of error messages...cannot do a search, says a file to run search companion is missing.  Cannot do device manager, and a few other things that Ive tried so far. Hi and welcome,

Be sure to look this solution over before you begin. There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with. If you recognze any, then just omit them from this fix.

Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done ' cleaning' off your system, we're going to ' flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.

Also move the " Backups" folder, for HiJackThis, if present.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

N3 - Netscape 7: user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "not listing"(C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\ayu2vqye.slt\prefs.js)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src ( or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Here are some last minute instructions.

Download and run CleanUp and clean up all the junk we have left.
Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
2. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
3. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
4. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
5. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
6. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
7. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
8. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
9. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Hey there....thanks for the response, I appreciate it.  I actually ran a few scans and did a simple one-button checkup with Norton and a windows check, and I'm not sure if it fixed the issue or what it was, but I am able to do a search now without it telling me that there is a missing file, and I think it seems that there is no virus active on my computer, so I am pretty happy!  Anyways, I still went and did what ya said to do with HiJack This, so here is the latest log from that.  I think the problem is resolved though, because I wasn't about to stop trying my own ways until I fixed it, and I think I did.  Thanks for the help reply though. thank so much, that's very thoughtful and kind of you man!  I appreciate it a bunch!   It seems that the problem is fixed, but doing these things will surely help too.  I did actually have Ad-Aware already, and I did have spybot, but got rid of the one I had, because it kept saying error during check up, so I dont know, it didnt seem to be working correctly or something.  I also had spyware blaster too, but got rid of it when I did a full reinstallation a while back, but thanks for reminding me to get it back.  I am also getting Stinger back on here again, because that's another one I used to have.  I think I should be ok now.  Thanks again for the help.   Sincerely,   Graffix_79
