Question about using web shields

Dell Inspiron 1501

XP - SP2

Hi,

I'm currently using AVG 8.0 paid version, which includes a web shield.  I've also installed Online Armor firewall (paid version - because of the keyloggers feature bank mode), which also includes a web shield.

At the moment both are enabled.

I would like to know whether both web shields complement each other or might cause conflicts (like running two AV programs in real time).  I haven't noticed any slowliness at startup or shutdown though.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Heartfelt thanks.

If by "web shield" you mean a firewall, then no - you shouldn't have two active at the same time (same reason as having multiple AV's running - possible conflicts).

rebel,

the AVG "web shield" is distinct from the firewall:

AVG anti-virus 8 offers:

  • Anti-Virus: protection against viruses, worms and trojans
  • Anti-Spyware: protection against spyware, adware and identity-theft
  • Anti-Rootkit: protection against hidden threats (rootkits)
  • Web Shield & LinkScanner: protection against malicious websites

AVG anti-virus 8 + firewall also includes:

  • Firewall: protection against hackers

finally, AVG Internet Security further adds:

  • Anti-Spam: filters out unwanted and fraudulent e-mails (anti-phishing) System Tools: for easy system management
  • System Tools: for easy system management

it sounds to me like web shield is more-like Spyware Blatster's protection, or SpyBot's immunization, but that's speculation on my part.

Thanks for the clarification ky331. I'd never heard the term "web shield" before.
